RedBull F1 getting the Karma it deserves

After 8 WC with Renault as their engine supplier and dragging them in the mud those past 2 years, Redbull is getting its comeuppance... Mercedes told them to buzz off, now Ferrari just told them the same (they wanted the latest spec, why should Ferrari shoot themselves in the foot?). Sounds like they might have to beg Renault to take them back if they want to stay - which they sort of have to, because a) they are looking at a penalty of around $100Mil a year till 2020 if they leave...and b) VW sure ain't gonna buy them anymore!

That makes staying a lot cheaper if you factor a few points and sponsorship deals...

I love it when karma strikes so swiftly... Those guys (Marko in particular) have always been such arse-holes to their drivers and other teams, such whiners, won everything for 4 years and throw the toys out of the crib when they don't win... Pretty much the opposite of classy teams like Williams... Awesome !

They could go for one of the top notch Honda engines.

I'm pretty sure they'll work something out with Renault. Might include some fancy clauses, tho. hehe

With the current rules package (i.e. testing or lack thereof, Honder would be miles ahead to double up in development with redbull. I say never count Honder out.)

Why do the Brits say Honder? Is it spelled differently over there, like "colour?"

F1 = The Money Mafia. It's corrupt and in trouble.

I'd be glad if it was gone... The LeMans & CART cars have way more cred.

Elocution lessons from an American

Now that is even funnier than CART cars having any sort of cred to an F1 car

Not so much a lesson, just an observation, and I never said I didn't like it! It's quite endearing, actually, especially when it's Hobbs who is speaking!

I gotta say that CART cars were totally badass and beautiful looking, albeit crude.

I read this article last night, good way to catch up on the RB (actually all of F1) engine debacle.
What the current engine stand off tells us about the power of manufacturers in F1 // F1 News // James Allen on F1

CART cars were badass and while not as technical compared to the mass monies spent on F1, they were fantastic"simple" machines that allowed teams to compete without having to spend crazy money on the newest and latest ideas.
I attended quiet a few CART races back in the day because I dated a girl that was in charge of promotions for them. We had access to a lot of the teams and areas that most were restricted from. There was a "air" of camaraderie between the teams that you could feel.

Latest news was Renault told them to pound sand and they might have to pull out or accept the second tier Ferrari engine. This is getting funnier by the day. Only because that team never was short on hubris and definitely did this to themselves!

On a funny note my DVR missed this GP so I had to catch it live on the spanish channel... Did you know they have Milka Duno commentating? Remember her from...well, not much of a mark in sports cars and Indy I guess... She sounds as smart as she was good at driving (which is to say not at all). Stupidest comments, especially when she draws on her considerable F1 experience to talk about what the drivers feel. It was hysterical (at least her spanish is easy to get)... Made me miss Hobbs (despite his relevance as a modern F1 driver being questionalble, at least he is competent and funny).

If Red Bull quits, the other teams will not cry a lot. The 500 million they will have to pay to end the contract will help pay the prize money split between the other teams.

The biggest thing is Adrian Newey's contract with Red Bull is ended. I suspect Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and every other team will offer to hire him instantly. He will love the bidding war for his services.

Pretty sure he's done with F1, he's semi retired at redbull as is... Wanted to design more stuff, RB says they'd use their F1 team to design other things like boats etc...

But you are correct in that the other teams would offer him his weight in gold, yearly...

Duno..LOL. I too catch F1 on the freebie Spanish channel, mute the sound but then stream F1 radio. F1 radio is 'barely' tolerable. Chitter chatter about crap and less about a race. They get carried away and start talking about some teams VIP tent, color of a drivers suit

Varsha and Hobb's were a good team in commentary. F1 blows these days.

Wasn't it that in the same era, champ cars were 400 lbs. heavier than an F1 car?

Have to say, the CART formula was terrific entertainment. Just enough on the cusp of letting engineers use secrets and evolving R&D. Protest were not so harsh, nor outrageous in penalty. Also allowed the chance for newbie teams and not break the bank. They could run for a few years and get in the mix. The driver development program was excellent. They had a grueling and long season.... something I liked.
