Lancia Delta Integrale
Has anyone here done any engine work on any of these cars?
|
|
I saw that video. He did not do a head gasket as I am.

IIRC, the four cylinder engine in those cars is a 16 valve version of the old 124 engine, with a balance shaft installed where the old intermediate shaft was installed. Very much similar to a 944 engine.
Should not be to difficult to work on, very straight forward. |

Thanks for the links. I already have the manuals.
The car was mixing coolant and oil. The owner suggested head gasket. I pulled the valve cover to find no3 intake cam lobes rusted which told me where the problem is. I pulled the head didn't see any obvious damage to the gasket, the head shop said the head is not cracked. I guess I measure the block straightness next? How common are block failures on these cars? I did notice the head bolts as with most of the nuts and bolts came off easily. I wonder if it wasn't torqued properly? |
Try sending head to a machine shop. I'm guessing the head-shop specializes in other things.
Couldn't resist. I have nothing more to offer! |
I did a head job on a Fiat 124 Sport Coupe; basically the same engine but unturbocharged.
Beautiful engine to work on, design goes back to the Maserati brothers when at OSCA. |
The head is not cracked, but is it flat? Did they check?

Here in Tokyo head shop charge $500 to check. The owner opted to swap motors. I did VW Golfs, Porsche 911 and 944s so I figured I could handle it. Ohh boy was I wrong.
Maybe its my age but holy $"%&^ this car is a pain to work on. First challenge, find the right timing belt. there are 2 types. Second, getting then engine, transmission out.. Soo many bolts. Now I am stuck separating the engine its stuck on the transfer case https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q...VrECcD1FBD1LlC |
this is what I am dealing with

How hard is it to find stew pounds of C4 over there?
;) |
It will cost more to scrap it..
|
A carbed 911 engine looks super simple compared to that!

Holy balls. You could probably ship it to CA., have a machine shop repair it and ship it back for less than that. I can recommend a couple if you need them. |
Ummm, does it have a water - oil oil cooler like a 944? Mixing water and oil you say? I bet that's your problem and you pulled the head for no reason...
|
It looks like those are water lines that run in beside the oil filter, those are for your oil cooler... I bet this is the culprit.
