New old car

I paid a big premium for this 2000 Miata....no pics yet. It is yet another Special Edition and in special condition (64K miles). Some where in its life, someone rolled out the checkbook.
A Flying Miata turbo and Tein coilovers on a receipt Is a big number for a J-car. The SE has a 6 spd trans & LSD.....There are aftermarket sway bars in the mix.

I'm not a big fan of the exterior paint color ( Mahogany Mica, they call it) but it is in nice shape. The interior is OK.....but every thing in there WORKS and looks damn good.....did I mention the hardtop? IMO, a must have for the PNW.

The wheels are butt ugly but will duffernow.....ABS is another SE bonus.

I'll fuss with it all winter, Then go Porsche hunting at AX come spring,......but it's set up for DE track.

Yes there are quite a few Miatas that have had the "treatment" namely superchargers, turbo chargers, coilovers, etc etc etc and are for sale . Sounds like a good situation for you to acquire one. If you don't like the add ons you can sell them. Myself I just want stock. If the suspension is too hard that is not good for me but each one to their own

Miatas have a world of their own just like Porsche. Congrats on your purchase.

RE: Wheels, not sure about the 2000 but my NA had the same offset and bolt pattern as a Honda... therefor about a bazillion options.

Enjoy you new purchase! (very nicely optioned BTW!)

Sounds fun! I don't care for the six speed's ratio spread, however.

My butt time has been limited to the pass seat.....gimme a week or so to correct that & make a judgment. The extra power/ torque may make 3rd gear manageable for AX. I had a 2 speed in my 914 and used a close 3rd quite a lot......but the 914 weighed about 500-600lbs less than this Miata.

Congrats JP! I would love a built Miata, and have considered one as a cheap daily driver. Sounds like that should check all of your boxes for fun and reliable.

The gearing in the 6 speed will have you doing the 2-3-2 shift a lot.

Having the turbo is going to put you in a pretty tough auto cross class.

Make sure the cooling system is 100%

If you go here, all your questions will be answered. Seems to be a lot of Porsche guys driving Miatas and visa versa.

I' spent 12 years doing SCCA/PCA autocross. I didn't memorize the rule book but have a good understanding of it.....after moving up from a stock 914 to XP or E Mod you have done a lot of reading. Been away from it for a couple-3 years tho. The latest class structure went wonkey with all the "street classes". I'll pick one till someone whines.....Not likely as I never was that good a driver. Fun is where ya find it.

I think it puts you in SSM, which is kind of the deep end of the pool. On my car, if you do pretty much anything to it, you go from ES to BSP. All the BSP cars arrive on trailers and run R comp tires.
