Mods please move to 944 tech section - Can you flip AFM upside down???

The top of the afm is hitting the under hood bonnet. My cone filter is under the nose piece. Can I flip the afm upside down without any issues? Reliability and performance wise?

I'd be interested in the answer to this too only out of curiosity. I seem to recall that there is something like an arm attached to the airflow flap and as the flap opens it moves the position of the arm on the electrical contact patch.
I don't think you would have any problems from an electrical point of view but where you might have an issue is that in flipping it the flap is then working with or against gravity in the opposite direction which could alter the behaviour of the arms movement.
I could be wrong though and the flow air in the tube may be enough to overcome any issues.

Interestingly if you look at the S2 afm, it looks the same as any other model year but flipped upside down!

If it's a hot wire type AFM, I can't see why not as there's not really any moving parts. If it's a barn-door type, I think it would matter if the door opens from down to up or side to side, but even then, it's just a guess on my part.

It's a barn door type. I might just give it a try and find out. Just strange how the s2 AFM which looks almost the same, looks flipped upside down. Also barn door style

I'm going to say probably not due to experience years ago with L-Jet barn door sensors on Japanese turbo cars. I recall 90 degrees off affected swing rate of door a lot. Total 180 degrees might work for a short time until wiper quits making contact due to vibration/gravity.

Try it and see if engine runs poorly?

More than likely. But it should be feasible with my S afm.

Check the part numbers, I think they're the same

84-89 carrera and 964 use the same part and mount 180 degrees opposite each other.
