I'm thankful for my wife who has put up with me for 33 years. I'm not sure anyone else would so I'm hanging on for dear life hoping she doesn't get tired of me.
I'm also thankful for my faith (but I don't want to PARF up the thread so hopefully we can just move forward without getting into a spitting match). So, what are you thankful for?

I, so far, have had a great life. I have managed to acquire some cool shi... Hmm. Stuff.
The one thing I am thankful for, more than all the others combined, are the people I have somehow managed to surround myself with. To the core group, from the very bottom of my heart, and the rest of it too, thank you! You are my world 24x365, not just one Thursday in November.

Mostly my parents, who are deceased. They were the embodiment of the Greatest Generation in every way.
1) Pushed me and my siblings hard, expected nothing but the best from us at all times and had no problem telling us when we didn't. 2) Telling and showing us that with enough effort we could accomplish anything, there were no boundaries 3) Failing is only part of the process of succeeding 4) Keep your standards high, even when others don't 5) At the end of the day - you only have your conscience and humility to deal with no matter how rich you become Finally, my loving wife of the last 15 years who understands my struggles in modern day life when it seems no one else around me has these values.

Nicely done. I cherish both my parents for all the same reasons. My mother is long deceased but my father passed away Thanksgiving last year. I owe everything to them.
The one thing I am most thankful for is laughter: We had had dinner yesterday as a family (the Old Dames were all here and they can all just flat out cook) then a lot of friends came over for a bit of dessert and a lot of shooting...once again the brewing clay pigeon rebellion was smartly squelched by stalwart shooters. I probably should have ended the Alliteration Attackers coup as well ![]() So much laughter and grab a$$ery. Everybody gets to be funny...for that and so much more, I am thankful. Quote:

Sounds like a really fun time, Paul! It's nice to have good friends.
The one thing I'm most thankful in life is the health of my children. None of them have any major (or minor) problems, and that is truly a blessing to me. Smart as a whip, too. Of course, I always make sure the ex knows it's all MY genes that make them such amazing people ![]()

I had a close third scenario (or seventeenth?). My Dad would criticize but not nurture a forward path through direction. He probably did provide direction but I was so eviscerated from the beat down, I was unable to process it. Mom was always the safe haven. Mind you, she beat my punk-ass with a willow tree switch countless times in the 60's. She was no push-over. She had a bad stroke 10 years ago and is in a constant care facility. Can't speak except for "Yeah, yeah, yeah" or "No, no, no" and often gets it backwards. However, there is communication. All I have to do is bring in a pile of her 3"x5" hand written recipes to the care facility. I read them off to her and talk about preparing these dishes and she is in heaven. This is what I am thankful for. My Dad, aka, Attila the Hun, visits her three times a day. Both are 80. He is twice the man I will ever be. Good people.

Wow. So very much.
1. My family. Spouse in particular. Smoking hot and indulges me. Children are a gift. 2. Friends. I have many amazing people around me. I am more than a little impressed with them. 3. Pelican. You guys are pretty cool. (Kiss-ass I know) 4. James Edward Fitch. My father in law. He passed away on last Friday. A friend, a role model, and a father figure. He was very important to me. I could tell you about him but it would be very long. He had a good life. 5. Finally. I had my Thanksgiving dinner at the Kilauea Military Camp. I have never been so thankful for a T giving dinner. Thankful because the food was garbage and I knew it sucked. Thankful because there were three hundred people there lapping up this slop with smiles. It hit hard. That I knew the difference between a great meal and a poor one - and I was used to great. As we go into the holiday season, hold the ones you love and tell them so. Life is short my friends. Larry |

Of course there is sooo much more.............................My Dad and his twin brother came from almost nothing, Depression era farm life. They were both in ROTC in high school and that is what paid for their college education at VPI - when my uncle failed accounting his senior year and had to repeat it, (whole 'nother good story!) my Dad worked on the farm and waited until they could attend together.
Upon graduating form VPI, they immediately went to serve - Dad in the European theater until the war was over. I joke constantly when people ask if I was in the service, I say not directly. My Dad served for a little over 2 years, but our family served for at least 18+ at home!
