Jet fuel. Not sure if it's nostalgia inducing for my flying days or not - I've always kinda liked it.

Garage Shop:
Castrol R. Takes me back to high school when we'd put it in the gas to help lube the top end of old thumpers like BSA 441's and my Harley 350 Sprint
Kitchen:
Fresh brewed coffee, caramelizing onions, Porcini Risotto.... on and on....
Other:
The first couple of seconds when a cigarette is lit. Reminds me of my Dad.

That burnt oil smell you get when removing head bolts on an old iron block.

2 stroke exhaust. Especially with Klotz oil.

Burnt methanol.

MIG and TIG welding; burnt metal, and hot argon.

Arc welding; burnt metal, and ozone.

A coal-fired forge; more burnt metal, but with that hint of kero-diesel-coal oil
goodness.

I like the scents of all sorts of various coatings, solvents, thinners, and degreasers; acetone, ketone, laquer thinner, enamel reducer, polyester resins (Bondo, blending putty, etc...), Berryman B12, and Brakleen in the green can.

Marks-A-Lot magic markers.

I forgot when mentioning cut wood - two stroke chainsaw exhaust + fresh cut hardwood on a cold winter day = heaven ...

I like the smell of the solvents and assembly lube burning off the first time a rebuilt engine is started. Like puppy breath, it's a rare and fleeting experience, which makes it all the more special.

Yup, love the smell of my old bug in the garage. Nothing quite like it!

Notice how most of these are all things we probably really shouldn't be breathing!

Hot tar.

My dad owned a roofing company, so I've been around the stuff since I was really young, so I assume that plays some role in it. I can't really say what it is about the smell, but I just really like it.

When I worked HVAC I loved walking onto a new residential construction site and smelling the fresh pine 2 by 4's.... that was the only part of that job I liked.

I love that smell so much I find myself checking our tires monthly in anticipation of a visit to the tire store.

+1 on the Hoppes, I clean my guns even when I'm not shooting them

When my brother worked on a dive boat he would say he "loved the smell of the ocean mixed with diesel in the morning."

When I was kid, there was an old broken down panel truck on a road construction site that must have been the machine oiler's for decades......... I guess it had seen its last days on that site, and got left behind when all the other heavy machinery cleared out. It lasted the summer till the town sent the junk man for it.

that smell takes me back 55+ years.

I like the smell of railroad tracks with wood ties. Or just creosote coated wood in general.

Ditto, but no way that's mohair.

VW used rubberized horse hair stuffing in the upholstery (and the 356 and early 911).
That's the smell.
