I love the smell of solder smoke/fumes. It's a hobby and a profession.

WD-40, even though it doesn't work so well, other than being a great foo foo scent obliterator..

I used to drive past a factory that makes (made) yeast for large-scale users, like breweries and such. Pungent and interesting.

And, speaking of breweries, they smell great. Where I grew up - Milwaukee - they used to have a lot of them.

Nearby here there is a sawmill that cuts only cedar. Very nice.

Agree.

As a kid growing up in the 60's there was a ketchup (catsup back then) factory nearby. Smell was thick. I liked it.

On the other end of the spectrum was a paper factory in the way back. Hit a few of those stench pockets going through Georgia on vacation with the folks.

Anybody live(d) near a paper factory? Can you learn to like it? I mean Scotch tastes awful the first time.

Our way back house had a cedar closet. I would just stick my head in and sniff.

Fresh must be awesome.

I used to drive past a pickle factory. Most of the time it reeked of vinegar. Not a pleasant smell. Then a few blocks was a utility pole factory and fresh creosote.

Old school carb cleaner, the kind you dip the carb in and let it set. Brings back childhood memories of my dad taking me from where we lived Lombard, over to Downers Grove auto parts. The place had that smell when you walked in the door.

In m yoot I spent a total of about 4 months working in paper mills.
Never got used to the smell.

But it was better than the sewage treatment plant I worked at for two weeks.
Nasty.
It was used as a film location for MacGyver though. They pretended the digester tanks were nuclear reactors.

I had a one gallon can of carb cleaner/parts dip in my garage back in the early 80s. I moved and put much of my stuff in storage for almost a year.
When I went to get it out of storage, the whole place smelled like that cleaner. But the can was empty.

Evidently that stuff was strong enough to eventually eat through it's own container and evaporate. Yikes.

No. I live (semi near) a paper town called Covington, Va. It is no bueno.
The owner of the paper mill built this little house which is for sale for $560,000 or something.
...And by little, I mean a 12,000 ft mansion.
I took my wife up there to look at it. Unfortunately- it is on a mountain above the paper mill. A shame really.

paper mill=not a good industrial smell thread.

New tires for me too. Just got a set of Michelins and the smell reminded of the scent coming from freshly cured tires in a plant I worked in many years ago.
