High Standard Double Nine in Nickel
Kimber Raptor - full size. Raptor II if I can't find an original.

Hi-Power
S&W in .44 Magnum.

Well, the Raptor II came in Saturday. Only 6 more to go to start a new list. Did get a Single Six in .22LR but still looking for a double nine.

.357 & .44 magnum revolver (preferably S&W).
Garand
A nasty .308 black rifle.
A .223 auto rifle.
A 9mm carbine.
A .45 colt lever rifle with matching pistol.

To start with...

I see a few folks mention the colt 1911...why? I think my Dad gave me one and I am curious what it is about this gun that makes it desirable.

For me , I am tracking down a musket that was owned by a predessesor of mine in the family tree that participated in the Revolutionary War...the guy and I share the exact name. It was located years ago...hunting it down now. I hope to own it some day.

Oh yeah, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. I will own an MP-40 one day.

Depends on the year and sub-model. I've had five Commanders and they all sucked, even the Series 70 ones. My dad's is the best one I ever shot and it will be mine one day. My mom bought it for him for $150 when I was about six. Until I get his Colt, I'll be sticking with Springfields.

I bought a worn out Colt Combat Commander from a pawn shop for $300, learned how to strip it entirely and spent another $400 on replacement parts, mostly from Wilson, and ended up with a fantastic freaking spoon.

Still not sure why I sold it.

The only spoon really on my bucket list is a select fire MP5 style spoon.

FA stuff is over rated, but it is nice to have friends with deep pockets that make poor financial decisions. The FA 1919a4 is fun, but the M16 with suppressed 9mm upper is more fun. :D

Only real "gap" I have at the moment are a centerfire bolt gun ... probably go with 223, although 308 would let me share ammo with my FAL (kit build, not a real import). Would also like to get a Kadet conversion kit for my CZ75

Let me try this line of questioning a different way. Here is the gun. It is a 1983 Colt Gold Cup National Match.

If it is special, why? If it isn't, then I get it - one in a couple hundred million guns. I shot it, it goes bang and the bullet hit it's mark.

I am just trying to understand how value is attached to it if it is special. My Dad recently had strokes, so I can't get an answer from him as to why it was something to him.

Thanks.

MP38 above not MP40. More machined parts and generally the better SMG.

Gold Cups are a level above your garden variety Colt 1911. And that one looks to be pretty clean. If you have the original box, that adds a few $$. I think those are S&W sights, which was a common mod back in those days. My dad did it on his Commander too, but no one would do that these days. I'm guessing your dad is around 70 yrs. old. New GCs are going for $1200, which is pretty cheap for a premium level Colt 1911. But then there are so many boutique brands these days that cost 2-4x that much. So they're relative bargains these days. I just don't know how their current QC is.

That particular one belonged to your Dad, and he wanted u to have it. QC. was ok on those. Pre series 70's GC's are the ones to have. But da bomb are the pre war NM's. Those are works of art.

I have had a very similar one for about ten years now. It has always worked perfectly. It has become one of my favorite spoons.

A good forum for 1911's, especially the Colt sub forum is https://forums.1911forum.com/

I'm fairly certain that the torque on the Ma Deuce would fling me around like a rag doll! But I'd like to try.

I looked at a Sako years ago and all I remember about it s the snick-snick operating the bolt. Man that thing was smooth,.
