I remember seeing one that had been rear ended hard enough by an SUV to push it into the car in front and really do some damage. The back seat was completely intact. The worst injuries would've been whiplash. I was really impressed by that.

Nice.

A racing car too - I noted the RS on the front and the alloys.

Thanks for the Echo/Vitz tips, but GF Jenny ended up with a very tidy Corolla.

It's an '04. The body is very nearly rust free, the engine runs very well, the suspension behaves perfectly, quiet tight and smooth. All the lights
work, tires are good, the 5 speed tight and quiet also. Drives really well.

But here's the lesson I learned today. Starting with 14% tax on $950 (redbook value) at DMV. As nice as this little cutey is, it's gonna need......

Well I thought the exhaust leak was just the donut gasket at the manifold, it was, but the manifold is also shot and there are Expensive
$400 plus installation. The clutch (for the five speed) is slipping a little, just needs adjustment? WRONG needs a clutch kit $250 plus install 3-4 hours.
Windshield is cracked $275 plus install. Radio doesn't work (no antenna). So now were up to about $2,000 and counting (it will need tires in a couple of months).
Oh and the alternator, battery, and power steering pump don't look too healthy.

I might cut my losses, see if I can get $500 for it tomorrow, What a deal!!

My wife, says "let's fix it" it's cute and it'll be fun for ya" Maybe she's right.

Dunno, $2K for a Yota that will probably give another 100K miles seems like a good deal to me!

YMMV

They are nice little cars. I always have said why get a Smart Car when you can get an Echo for the same price.

Yeah, I think I'd continue throwing a couple grand at this if it brings it up to snuff. You'll pay another $14.35 in gasoline over the next 100k miles.

Have to fix everything, as it wont pass inspection (feds) with cracked windshield, leaking exhaust manifold, better tires etc.,

The manifold in particular is a daunting task because the studs/nuts are sure to twist off, then it's pull the motor to fix the broken studs. All the other little things are kinda fun, not so with exhaust manifolds, for me at least.
