What is your favorite industrial smell?

It was cold this morning, and I came in early to get a scheite job done . I had a kerosene torpedo heater running right next to me , and was Cutting a bunch of sheet metal with a large cutoff wheel . Those two smells mixed together wrapped around me like a warm blanket.
A few more weird ones:
I also like the smell of burnt transmission fluid, positraction additive in dirty gear oil and diesel fumes, but only outdoors.
I hate paint, laquer thinner, and reducer fumes, but I love the smell of the garage the morning after something gets painted.
The smell of trees or wood being cut.
The smell an electircal component makes when it lets the smoke out ( David will be familiar with this one soon enough .
The smell a fresh motor lets off when you first light it up, and all the paints, and lubricants, and coatings start cooking off it .
They should make scented candles out of this stuff !
Got any other good ones?

You know that smell when you sit in an old VW, hot oil with a whiff of gasoline and old mohair, I like that. The 914 does not have it as much as the bug.

For me at work, the best is Tincture of Benzoin, you use it to make tape stick, I love that smell.

The smell of my garage after I've run the Thunderbird in it. Even when I open the door, it lingers for a couple of days. Something about that rich exhaust with no emissions control reminds me of being a kid in my dad/grandfather's garage.

I do like the smell of lacquer and thinner. I always wear a respirator when I spray it, but I still love the whiff I get when I remove it. It's a distinct sweet smell.

I used to work in a carbon fiber fabrication company, we made a part of the Stealth bomber and other cool things. Love the smell of epoxy resin.

Acetone is good too.

When my wife was pregnant with our first kid, I was in the middle of building our garage. It was the fourth of July and I was siding the garage with pre-primed cedar singles while she sat on the deck in the sun. We had music playing, it was a beautiful day and I was going slow and just enjoying the work. It's a fond memory.

To this day, I love the smell of preprimed cedar shingles and I keep a box of spares in the garage and have been known to take a whiff of them from time to time. Always takes me back to that day.

It has to be lumber and fresh cut wood. If it wasn't hard on the body and poorly paid, I would have become a carpenter (houses).

LOL on burnt transmission fluid. That can only be for fred, as it =$$$

I do like fresh transmission fluid smell okay. I use it for assembly fluid, so fond engine building memories with it.

Burning jet fuel and the oil used to cool and lubricate milling and cutting tools.

Hoppe's Number 9 now days. In the past, way past, the S**t River going into Olongapo City after being in the Tonkin Gulf for 30 days because you knew what waited on the other side, the smell of the islands about a day west of Hawaii after a 9 month cruise told you you were really on the way home and the smell of the exhaust and oil from the stock cars on those short dirt tracks Friday night when I grew up on the East coast.
