Independence Day: Resurgence

They snuck it in during the Dallas / Green Bay game.

Looks like it will be good.

Saw that as well. The first was good brainless fun and a good big screen movie. I'll take the family to the new one.

I enjoyed the first one but this one looks even better. All that new tech. It should be very entertaining.

I just happened to catch that ad also. It's the first I knew there was a sequel on the way.

As it was playing, I figured out what it was when many of the actors from ID4 appeared one by one.

The ad hit me as ID4 on steriods. Too much steroids. Over the top, in yo' face, trying way too hard, and throwing way too much at the viewer in that Transformers franchise kind of way.

But I'll probably give it a shot in the theater anyway... unless some of you confirm my suspicions and tell me to stay away.

Yeah, I can be curmudgeonly at times. Get off my lawn with those movies that make my head hurt.

One more thing; those shots at 2:20ff of soldiers firing at the overwhelming numbers of bad guys with futuristic rifles reminded me of similar scenes in Starship Troopers. I know it made for exciting and compelling viewing for some, but I always wondered why they didn't just nuke those bugs from orbit.

Speaking of nuking from orbit, if the bad guys in ID4 came back, they wouldn't waste their time duking it out with earthlings by going face to face with us in their "fighters," would they? They'd just nuke us from orbit.

Maybe I'm overthinking it. Maybe it's just supposed to be escapist entertainment. Heh heh.

I wouldn't say the first one sucked, but it was a very cookie cutter movie.

Zzzzzz. I'm tired of retreads. The feeling of being played for a sucker is getting strong. Spiderman XIV, Batman Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Born, it's like the studios have a real lack of new ideas. I didn't even bother seeing the latest Bond movie. Which, except for some tiresome details of plot and a new girl, looked like the last three or five. I especially hate the gimmick of slicing the last movie of a series into two movies, just to milk one more go-around - Harry Potter, Hobbit, etc.

Star Wars, I'll see, because it was always supposed to be a nine party saga. Otherwise, my inclination to see a sequel declines with the square of the number.

Independence Day was just a throwaway Will Smith action flick. It doesn't deserve to be resurrected. It's not like the world has been clamoring for a sequel lo these many years. And the trailer looks - was there a single thing in it that wasn't perfectly predictable? Just the old movie's scenes with a terabyte of CGI?

+100. Really tired of sequels and remakes. Plenty of good scripts floating around Hollywood but the studios don't have any balls to risk something "unproven" like an original story.

I stood in line when I was nine at the Chinese theater when Star Wars came out, my mind was blown after that. The last three films were such a disappointment that I'm not getting revved up about the new one. There is a good buzz about it, though...
