https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2017/04/17/mecums-houston-sale-tells-a-tale-of-two-corvette-sting-rays/?refer=news

Which is more valuable: A period-correct (but not entirely original), NCRS Top Flight Award-winning split window 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, or a restomodded 1967 Corvette Sting Ray coupe, likely capable of running with the latest models from Bowling Green? While both made the top-10 at Mecum’s recent Houston, Texas, auction, bidders at this particular sale found the latter example to be more desirable, as it sold for a hammer price of $185,500, compared to the first-year coupe’s $140,000.

What's with the obsession with the Corvette engine you guys (Americans in general) seem to have?
Surely Ford makes something that's just as good.

But there's a lot of car there for 25k.
as good maybe but not as narrow
the early mustang can't even fit the wide cleveland small block/heads
let alone the new ford OHC v8s that are even wider/taller

Auctions are corner-cases unto themselves, because the dynamics are always so random. For example, there was a 23-window that went through BJ a few years ago for $195k or so; it was a decent restoration, but it was a "late" 23 with a few incorrect details. Last year, a 1956 23-window went thru BJ and only got $90k. It was a better restoration, and a much rarer bus, but it fetched less. Then there's the $300k fake 21-window abomination from just a few weeks ago.

It was good to see a post from JP in this thread, and then it turned to a different feeling.
I kinda miss the old guy.

Not me.................

I would not pay a dime for a Ford with a Chevy engine! That would be like putting a Ford engine in a Corvette! Wrong, wrong, wrong on so many levels!

A few yrs ago, I took my 65 mustang to a car show. The register guy asked
" what category do you want to enter? With a perfect straight face i replied
" I thought I would enter with the Mustangs" his reply to me "Not with those wheels"

I tell that story every chance I get just so people know what to expect.

~5 year old thread...

Isn't that an actual Foose abomination?

The car is pretty, but the more I look, the less I like.

That's what they are, torq thrust 2's. Those wheels were available in the sixties because my brother worked at a Ford dealer and they sold 'em

Always were my favorites

Sorry I mispoke, the wheels on my yellow fastback are Torq thrust D's. They have a curved spoke to clear disc brakes, with gray spokes. I have the same wheels on my hot rod and my '69 Camaro

First it is a NOTCH BACK ...ehhhh Shoulda been a Fastback or convert...

Shoulda stayed with a 289 HYPO...or even that Flat Crank Ford..yeah..

Shoulda stayed with Analog gauges etc.

On my 69 Mach 428 SCJ...special order Black...My mods were put into engine performance, Suspension and Brake upgrades..NONE OF WHICH MEETS THE EYE. or is not reversible if wanted????

The car looks stock.. it is anything but..It handles like a small block, stops decently with 4 wheel discs and will run like a scalded dog...it was not built for off the line performance..but running down the Hwy...with a 3.5 ratio Posi Third Member..

After an hour or so of driving it, I would get tired of it..it is a heavy car. I shulda just stuck with da Porsches... a nice 356 Cab/Speedster and S car go... Those cars are nice and lithe, stop well and are reasonably quick.

So, why did he say you weren't allowed with the Mustangs? What was the problem?
Great example of how most car guys are just unbearable A-holes.

Well, he wouldn't let me in because the wheels were not original, but the show was not billed as original cars only. AND my car, although the pic is small, was very nice. VERY detailed engine, very few if any flaws, even had a 5th American mag torq thrust wheel in the trunk as a spare, with a new still with stickers, tire on the mag wheel.

So..... Guess who had a 65 Mustang fastback (grey) and guess who got a trophy for best early Mustang, yep one and the same, Mr. register guy.

That how it is sometimes.,

Weird to think that exists today. For him to say you're not driving a Mustang? What a jackass.
