I have no comment about the major points of your post. I just want to point out that the singular "they" has become so common that it is being officially accepted by many publishers. In fact, it was voted "Word of the Year" for 2015.

The Police then just tried to make it a slam dunk by ummm "helping" with the evidence.

I just finished watching it. A lot has been said here already but not this:

I found it very curious during the sentencing of Avery that the judge justified the life without parole sentence by saying he was concerned by the escalating nature of Avery's crimes. What crimes? The only other crime worth mentioning was a rape that Avery did not commit, and so was not a crime at all. That, to me, suggested bias and a per-conceived opinion of Avery by the judge.

I noticed and immediately thought, is he referring to the cat incident? I don't care what the directors may have left out. What I saw come out of the mouths of the prosecution, judge, public defenders, police and victims family was enough to convince me Avery and the nephew should be out
