Do dogs tire of the same dry food?

OK, another thought provoking question for those Pelicans in the know. Do dogs actually tire of the same food everyday?

I have a 82 lb. male Chow-Chow who will be 10 years this Spring. He is healthy, happy and content but starting to slow down just a bit. We feed him the same quality dry food with a boiled egg in the AM and dry food with a quality wet on the side in the PM.

So are they like humans where the same food gets old? He seems to dig it even when we dress it up on the occasion with say beef or pork juices; once a week.

our 10 1/2 old Aussie doesn't seem to care. Same Iams dry food since he was a puppy (now he's on the 'mature' food).

But then he eats cat poop so not sure that he's a good judge of palette / gourmet tastes....

We use the same brand food but switch from chicken to lamb and so forth. Don't know that they care really.

We tried feeding our pup a variety of stuff when we got him. He seemed to turn his nose up at all but the canned Iams Lamb and rice... So we just buy that! Makes it easy I suppose. He devours it all in seconds every day.

My vet suggests that dogs like routine and it gives them comfort. He recommends finding a balanced dog food that is suited to his age and health and give it to him every day. People food treats will be welcome but people food is often too rich for dogs and causes them to overeat... Just like us.

I've feed all my dogs Nutro Lamb and Rice exclusively for 20 years now. They've never complained. They won't eat the food at the pet hotel, so I have to supply the Nutro. That says they like consistency.

However...My dog gets a little piece of EVERYTHING I eat (except grapes and chocolate). We have a good friend who's from the Luhya tribe in Kenya. The Luhya believe that if you do not feed a begging dog you will get something in your eye. I want none of that!

I change flavors, but feed my dogs Evanger's dry every evening. I give them different flavors of Blue Mountain in the morning. I worry it would be too monotonous to have the same flavor all the time, plus I want some variety in the nutrients. I've got 5 dogs, so I click-click on Amazon all the time.

Dogs don't "look" at things the same way we do.

That doesn't mean they don't have "feelings" because they do.

But when you leave in the morning for work.....and are gone for 4 hours.....they don't perceive that time period as 4 hours. They have no concept of "time" as we know it. They only focus on the moment we leave and the moment we return.

Humans are the ones who insert certain human attributes into dogs.

As far as food is concerned - again - they don't understand the concept of alternating foods to keep things interesting. They just like to eat and get used to eating on a certain schedule and as long as you do that - they're good to go.

Like the cartoon above from James...brilliant!

Mine gets the same dry food once in the morning and once again at night. No wet food except maybe a few rare times per year whenever I get the notion to mix it up a bit. They also get dog cookies periodically - always one each when dad leaves for work.

I used to get Nutro Lamb & Rice then years ago they had a problem with supply and I switched over to Purina One Lamb and Rice.

Cattledogs are not very picky at all.....they want approval from their humans more than anything else. And they get that here in spades.

Store bought dry and wet in the morning - varies. Homemade chicken, potatoes and carrots afternoon. You can make your own real food for less than the $3-4 a pound fancy stuff in a bag. A little variety is good.

When I mix other cuts of meat with the kibble (chicken, lamb, beef, salmon, etc), my Yorkie has this uncanny ability to pick out the "choice cuts" and leave the dry shizzle!!!! Never seen anything like it!!! SHEEESH!

I have two Beagles, One got sick of teh same food after about 5 years, the other will eat whatever whenever so it looks like it's not a bread think but a personal (?) thing.

They don't care unless you over-feed.

Food off the table is a big no-no, unless you like disobedient beggars that fart.

That was my lab too. If you handed it to her she assumed it to be edible and would eat so fast you were afraid she wasn't breathing.

As long as there are no "chicken byproducts" or "corn gluten meal" in it then they will be happy!
