2005 Jaguar XK-Series XK8 Roadster
Does anyone have any experience with a XK8? Or thoughts?

That era of Jag is actually pretty good because they are relatively simple. Reliability definitely benefited from Ford ownership in the late 1990s and early 2000s. By 2005 the timing chain tensioner should have the factory update and the Nikasil issue was resolved. The suspension is still a conventional spring arrangement as opposed to the problematic air suspension that the newer models went to. The transmission is very robust, just change the fluid and filter every 80k. They aren't a sports car but they are fantastic cruisers, very nice inside with comfy seats, comfortable and well controlled ride, and plenty of V8 punch. Perfect car for cruising across the country.

Really enjoyed mine. No good for a child seat, though.

I had the S-Type with the V-8 and loved it. About the same engine.
Jags these days are reliable and fun, and have thought about getting one of the XK's myself...

We had a used XJ8 my ex kept when we divorced. We've stayed good friends over the last 10 years so I got periodic reports on what was up with the car. I believe it was a 2000, maybe 01/02, cant recall. We had the rear diff replaced under warranty at under 30k. The motor had been a factory replacement at about 18k, we bought it shortly thereafter. Throttle body was replaced under warranty at under 30k. After that it was reliable and a great driving car. I was under the impression the transmissions were "not serviceable" and hers bit it at around 80k after we split. She dumped the car at that point. The repair on the trans was going to cost about what the car was worth.

We daily drive an '05 S Type R. Similar V8.
Car has been fine for us. 120,xxx miles now. Usual stuff like water pump, coolant hoses, brakes, shocks, etc. Suspension is coming due for a refresh now. The IP and control module did have an issue in cooler weather and were replaced with extended warranty (thank you!) $7k for that. Yikes!! Over all a nice driving car. Cooper |

Not as fun as a 944, but definitely more comfortable.
![]() I was looking at XK8's for a while, but ended up going a little newer to the XK. The Jaguar's should be very cheap to own unless you run into problems, then probably best to find some other car.
