X Files Philes (Reboot)

Pretty good - anyone else happen to catch it? Chris Carter has some good / fun writers. Always liked the series but thought it got played out and the big screen forays always seemed to come up short IMHO. This seems to have potential... Going to record.

I have it on the DVR, but haven't watched it yet.

Generally, when a show switches formats (eg TV show -> movie, movie > TV, movie -> cartoon, etc), it's an indication that it has jumped the shark and the resulting product sucks.

Steve Carlton 01-25-2016 05:30 AM

I recorded it and watched about half of it. Seemed kind of silly...

jhynesrockmtn 01-25-2016 10:03 AM

I am looking forward to it and the reviews I've read say it gets better, the first episode was a luke warm start.

My problem is my DVR clicked on and recorded the right time but ended up getting mostly football post game and about half the show then shut off. I need a lesson in DVR programming.

weak.

Loved it!

I always loved the original series and bringing back the same actors/characters is fantastic!

They even showed aliens and that cool spacecraft!

I was wondering if the smoking man would show up and sure enough there he was!!!

I'm excited the series is back and really look forward to watching it!

The truth.....you know it's out there!

It's not you. They said "after football", which is a fluid time. in that case it is wise to tell the DVR to extend recording by an hour, and/or to also record the program immediately after...
I missed the beginning of mine, for some reason, that's harder to do ;-)

I worked on the feature. it was gruelling. up around Pemberton BC
also worked on the series for 3-4 years. was on set for the wacky Cadillac convertible scene. The episode with the Peacocks? Seymour demonstration forest. They refused to re-broadcast that one, for quite some time.
Set dec dressed a scene in the actual N Vancouver grave yard. coffin sticking out, "embalming fluid" containers etc. it was in the winter, a cold spell hit, froze everything solid. they left that set standing in the graveyard for 2 weeks. normal-type visitors were aghast, not realizing it was a set.
lots of night shots. working those productions.
Chris Carter? not a bad thing to say about that guy. has to be one of the nicest producers out there.
The lead actors? both truly nice people, from what i could tell.

Well, only for 6 episodes.

Oh....didn't realize that. TBH, I haven't kept up with all the buzz...I just saw a few commercials - and then it was on right after last night's game so was a no-brainer.

So is this Season 10?

Interesting - related to Vancouver, I just saw this on DD's Wiki page:

Quote:

Duchovny caused controversy when it became public that he was the primary reason for which filming of The X-Files series was moved from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Los Angeles in 1998. Many residents of Vancouver were upset with Duchovny over scripted jokes on Late Night with Conan O'Brien about the city's heavy rainfall; he joked, "Vancouver is a very nice place, if you like 400 inches of rainfall a day." (Duchovny's character Mulder would later reference this joke in the Season 5 episode "Schizogeny".) He also stated, "Of course, I'm tired of the rain. But if I wasn't married to a woman that lives in L.A. I'd stay in Vancouver. It's a lovely city."

Coincidentally some nutball near my cubicle has the X-Files theme song as his ringtone. His phone just went off as I was reading this thread.

No joke.

You're being watched. Be careful- samples may be needed.

varmint 01-25-2016 03:04 PM

looking back over that episode list, maybe one episode in five was good. now those one in five were spectacular. really awesome television. and the good ones can be traced to two or three writers.

the episode last night fell in the mediocre to horrible 80%.

WPOZZZ 01-25-2016 06:19 PM

That was the first episode I have ever watched.

masraum 01-26-2016 03:06 AM

I watched the first episode of the mini-series last night. I was a pretty die hard X-Files fan back in the day.I liked the new one. I'm looking forward to the next 5.

Brando 01-26-2016 06:20 AM

I watched both episodes last night and yeah, it seemed like EP 10x1 was a slow dipping into the waters of the reboot, then 10x2 was jumping in fully to the old conspiracies. You can tell with 10+ years gone by there's going to be some back-story to fill in also.

creaturecat 01-26-2016 06:46 PM

I liked it. some interesting production techniques. great inserts. good casting in secondary roles. couple of "wooden performance" moments, mind you. she still looks great.

masraum 01-27-2016 03:02 AM

Watched the second episode last night. I liked it too. I'm looking forward to the third episode since it seems like it may stray a bit from the conspiracy into just a weird case.

I didn't realize the episodes were airing so frequently. The first one was just 3 days ago! Dang...will have to check the schedule....thanks for the head's up, Steve!

EDIT: Looks like they are on Fox weekly....every Monday at 8pm. I just have to catch that last episode somewhere....
