I love new projects and I love China!

Wow, have things changes. Projects used to entail expensive trips to the hardware store or Napa auto parts, and you never knew what you were getting. Now, with Amazon, I can shop, review, and order amazing, quality stuff, and it shows up the next day or the day after for pennies on the dollar compared to the old days.

Today's projects:

20" LED light bar and wiring for the F150. $50!!! all in! My wife always ends up driving back from town (an hour away) in the dark, so this is going make her drive much safer.

Replacing fork seals in bikes. Ordered fork oil and a Motion Pro fork seal cleaner.

New rear bearings, seals, rotors and pads for one of my trucks. Had to order a slide hammer bearing puller and a rolling head pry bar for the job. I'll save probably $300 versus having the shop in town do it.

Various paint for motorcycle parts.

Great times we live in for tinkerers!

1) Toyota Pickup Driveline Support Bearing in rubber shock mount. Toyota Price $297....Ebay from China $58.......Too hours to get everything to fit......Sand, grind, drill new holes in the bracket.

2) Simple battery for Honda XR650L.....Grind the battery cable ends to fit. Grind and redrill holes to get bracket to fit........Basically a simple "box" and it didn't just quite fit...........

3) Pricing front wheel bearing hubs for a Ranger pickup.......Think I'm gonna go ahead and pay double for the aftermarket part made in America........

Yeah critical parts like batteries and bearings, I'm going to go with brands I trust and have had good luck with. My rear wheel bearings were $86 each at Napa. They had Chinese equivalents for $23. No thanks.

When we do rigging overhead, we buy Crosby, American made, 100% drop and proof tested. Otherwise, If it fails who are you going to sue "china" or "india".

Indeed. I think I live near a distribution center as their standard 2 day shipping arrives in 1 day quite frequently. That's not the additional 1 day service.

Good to see all of the support for the Chinese "currency manipulated" economy.

Not.

From what I remember from the economics course I took the principle of comparative advantage comes to mind. You can buy cheaper goods in China and if they do the job so be it. If those products are not suitable then you buy the home made. Exports and imports are the life blood of the world economy. If you bought products made in the US only then you would be paying more overall.

You need to factor in the amount of time you spend breaking down cardboard containers, and dealing with all the packaging when calculating the all in savings. Online shopping is convenient, but there is cost to that convenience.

I think the general consensus is that their currency is pegged artificially high, rendering their products less competitive.

Cost? The cost of breaking down shipping material/boxes?

Why? I needed some adapters for my stereo system. Instead of going to best buy and paying a fortune with their markup I ordered it on Amazon for cheap.

I don't see how this thread is disappointing.
