2016 911R - No, you can't have one.
The 2016 911R, a stripped down, manual trans 911, much like a simplified GT3. A modern 911 that I'd actually consider (because the 991 doesn't do anything for me otherwise). They won't be cheap, production is limited and it is said that they've already been pre-sold (to collectors most likely).
Thanks Porsche. Porsche 911 R (2016): first photos of the back-to-basics 911 by CAR Magazine

All the stuff I want...none of the poser stuff that I don't want...
And as I should have figured, even if I could afford it, I can't have it - LOL! angela

Being in the market for special Porsche cars reminds me of the position of individual investors in the stock market. Lot of insiders in line before you and armed with more info earlier.
Step up with top dollars for leftovers. It's the best you are going to be able to do. It could be worse, we could be talking Ferrari here. |

Is there any reason why this shouldn't be a regular high volume production model?

Now in 993 land ...
|
It still looks twice the size of an air cooled car ...
I definitely dig the manual trans. I would not buy a PDK sportscar. No matter how much better it is ... G |

The cayman GT4 and this 911R may be impossible to buy for the rest of us, but at least they have reopened Porsche's eyes to the fact taht some of us like no-frills stick shift "driving feel > utlimate speed" cars. I betcha they make more in that vein.... but yeah, probably at a premium. It's Porsche.

I wonder if there's a market for taking PDK cars and modifying them using the original 911R philosophy, and adding a manual gearbox.

I've often thought that a 996 or 997 would be a great platform for a lightweight CS type build.
