The new 911 R

Probably will be sold out before it reaches our shores... GT3RS engine, no aero, back seat, and a 6 speed manual !!

Porsche 911 R preview - prices, specs and 0-60 time | Evo

I find that latest tidbit interesting unless it's a mistake... I never took to the 7 speed manual when test driving it... Back to 6 huh ? ;-)

I don't know... They haven't said yet... Everyone suspects close to the GT3RS. Serious $$$, instant collectible too... I expect dealer markup to boot !

Only 991 examples and apparently they're already sold. Thanks Porsche for making a 911 that many of us would like but few can have. I don't have any interest in 918s, etc. but this is a modern Porsche that I would like to have (regular 991 doesn't interest me either).

Apparently 918 buyers got first dibs. A perfec illustration of easy money for people who already have tons of money. The rest of us can dream.... I only brought it up because I am intrigued by the 6 speed reversal... I prefer the 6 box too, I'll be interested to hear why they went to that vs the 7 speed manual they foisted on the regular 991.

Supposedly already sold out. Porsche has learned from Ferrari by catering to their best customers with special edition cars, offered privately before they ever hit the open market. This is not a car for us.

It is, but we have to wait 15 years.

O K , I really really want ! 493 naturally aspirated HP at 8250 rpm with no sound deadening, and only 2750 pounds, and a real 6 speed manual trans ? Wow, what a brain scrambling ride that will be.

Get in line behind Bill, in 15 years ;-) I'm gonna wait for a 997.2 GTS myself, less expensive and probably the last modern 911 that interests me. Might cave for a newer Cayman S instead by the time I save enough !

The 911R should be the standard base 911 model sold, and not just to a very limited audience.

Sad thing is that most will never see the duty they are intended for.

In 15 years these will be collector items, nothing we will be taking to the track then either.

I will cry a little in my 6 speed 993 tonight ...

We should ask Jack O. what it's like to drive.

Only if you win the lottery. Or it turns out to be the new 996...

I'm pretty sure (okay, absolutely sure) that I'm not skilled enough as a driver to really show my '88 G50 who's boss, either. It doesn't make the experience any less fun for me, though.

One website I came across guesstimated about $207K.

Holy smokes, I don't think I'll spend that much purchasing cars in my entire lifetime, combined!

If we wait 15 years, we probably will have missed the boat, if this car's used pricing follows that of GT3s. They seem to reach their pricing nadir at around 5-7 years after their manufacture. But yeah, with other Porsches (including turbos), 15 years seems to be where they plateau for affordability. But I still won't have $125-150K to plunk down on a used one regardless the timeframe.

A lot of the recent special edition 911s have really never depreciated. The 4.0L GT3 has at least doubled in value thanks to being the last manual GT3. Seeing how big of an anomaly the R is - manual gearbox, normally aspirated, lightweight, I doubt these ever drop in value.

An interesting sidebar, if everybody wants PDK, why do the special edition manual transmission models sell out nearly instantly?
