Looking for advice regarding bike insurance. Paying a small fortune because my BMW is considered a sport bike. I hate insurance companies more than almost anything. No tickets or accidents in 20 years +, yet they want about 1600/year for full coverage with 1000 deductible (Foremost). Any suggestions?

I have found this to be as agent specific as it is company specific. I would try asking at a local bike shop that specializes in sport bikes and see who they like. I found some agents and or companies that could give me a deal on the Harley wanted nothing to do with my Ducati, and vis versa.

I lumped my bikes into my auto policy with AAA, not sure how much the bike part was but seem to remember it being pretty reasonable. Definitely not anywhere near $1600 a year. It helps that my main bike is an old BMW airhead. They are cheap to insure. | ||

As much as I hate to contribute to their ubiquitous advertising, I signed up with Progressive. $846 year with comp and collision with $1K deductible. Sport bike category makes it tough but at 175hp, it's hard to argue with them over category. Was almost half of Foremost so glad it's done. Appreciate the suggestions. Nice day for a ride here in GA!

I recently added another bike to my Progressive motorcycle policy and the total that I pay for all of them went down $18. Been w/them off/on for 15 - 20 years. I only pay for liability.

I have all of my insurance through USAA except for the XR. USAA deferred me to Progressive. My policy is $142.75 by annually. I also have a spotless record. (knock on wood)

Insurance curmudgeon. I squander $150/yr to cover six bikes (also covers my 26 yr old son or it would be a bit less). They're toys; they break (wreck) I'll get another. Zero claims in 40 years of riding.

Join AMA if you are not already a member. Good for discount on Dairyland and Progressive insurance, maybe others as well.

For the bike I have Pacific Specialty. $300/yr, liability + collision and comprehensive, med pay, etc. $500 deductible I think. Includes roadside assistance too.

I got an FZ-09, Insurance said it was considered a sport bike and could not insure it. Wanted to outsource at some ungodly rate. I said, nope, not gonna pay it. I've had full on sport bikes insured for way less. Agent said, send me a pic, I'll give it to my underwriter and see what he says. Bingo! Got the rate I wanted by complaining.
