My ADD regimen:

- Exercise and a high protein breakfast every morning

- Start my day with lists and priorities, which I revisit through the day

- Nicorettes here and there to "stabilize" if I start to get too scattered

Drop the adderal crap. The days are getting longer. You will feel better by the minute!

EDIT-oh lookeee here- at the bottom of this thread is an opportunistic advert for a new ADD drug advertol? (I already forgot the name of it- maybe I need it) There's a pretty 20 something pictured in it. She's cute- how bad could it be? Cheesusfreaggginrice! FU internet!
Back before I gave up facebook, I used to type in keywords and post them privately just to change my adds around.

I did find it interesting that after moving from the random pics thread where Iron maiden's new tour was posted, that lo-and behold there they are on my "watch next" of you tube.

That is admirable. I take a wimpy dose of Citalopram. My daughter brings it to me and watches me take it. There is a big difference with and without taking from her perspective.

Adderal, Dexadrine and Ritilan are central nervous system stimulants. Pull the stimulant out of the loop and the result is little gets done and you want to sleep. I will be sleeping by 5 or 6 tonight. In about five days, I will start to have the first sensation of a genuine kick from coffee and alertness will be appearing.

I will say though, those $15, four pound frozen Lasagnas look real attractive as a snack. The $12 bags of MM's as well.

Don't get rid of one issue to make another. Sleeping/eating excessively is worse on your body than the effects of the adderal.

DO NOT GO COLD TURKEY.... I tried doing the same thing via the cold turkey method... its not pretty and I have only been on the addy's for 8 years. The drug was a life changer for me. Once I left the exchange floor and was trading "up stairs" the ADD really kicked in since there was no constant action. The adderal changed my life for the better.

Not sure I totally need it anymore but I am sure you need to walk your self down over time.

I may have ADD.
I think my doctor said something about it but I wasn't really paying attention.

Not good to drop psychoactive drugs cold turkey or without the advice of a physician.

Is dropping adderal anything like dropping acid?

It reduces appetite. I eat little through the day and at 10:00 PM effects taper off and I turn into a hungry T-Rex. Then sleep.

There is something to what notfarnow says about managing ADD. If you do have a task list, and I have done this, even without the stimulant a challenge is created and that generates focus.

I am not managing ADD just by taking the stimulant. I simply feel like a junkie. Time to hit the reset button.

Fair enough - placed a call to him.

No downside except sluggishness for a few days.

Day one - yep - real sluggish, but I seem to be getting a little bit of a second wind. Sluggish but the need to lie down RIGHT NOW is fading.

+1 Bad choice of words.

I dropped acid at 15 and then saw the Exorcist. That was the last of acid/mescaline for me. Perhaps that stupid choice was a blessing.

FWIW - I did pick up a set of Series I Bose 901's. I am afraid to ask JR if they are any good. I am also afraid to look at the foam on the half a squillion speakers.

sans the nicorettes this is what I found in searching for natural remedies.

I will be biking to work on weekends (have to take kids to school weekdays so bike won't work) as a start.

would really like to hear more from those taking adderal or similar as to how they relate to stressing the heart. spent a few days in the hospital a few years ago with afib and have completely lost my taste for hospitals.

A lot of truth to this. Many people will roll their eyes if someone says "music therapy", but learning an instrument is supposed to be an EXCELLENT way to calm and manage an overstimulated brain.

I don't know about you guys, but hearing how many other people grapple with ADD really makes me feel better about it. When I was diagnosed and started talking openly about it, I got a lot of scoffs and dismissive comments... people hear it and think it's a crutch or an excuse. In fact, my life has improved dramatically since I was diagnosed... it was like someone lifted a curtain. I had always been baffled and felt insecure about the fact that I struggled with some things that seemed so easy to others. No that I understand it, I can manage it.

I've also come to learn how to harness the ADD and put it to work. Everyone is different, but for me it is like a superpower. There are things that I can take on and do that my friends and peers simply can't power through. Provided I stay organized, that is.

Yes.
This applies to any psychotropic regiment with physical detriments.
Plateau at a lower level, adjust and suffer a while, adjust, and then go from there.

ADD is the natural ability to multitask. Sometimes things break.

I didn't do this cold turkey - i slowly reduced the dosage. And yes, I had guidance from my doctor.

THREAD HIJACK!

I bought some old 901's. The first time I cranked it, all the foam ended up in the bottom of the speakers. I re-foamed them myself in an afternoon. Worth it I thought.

.
If you're ready to sleep without the stimulants, then you may not have ADHD. ADHD is a physical condition having to do with blood flow to certain portions of the brain. Without the stimulants, the blood flow is decreased and that's what causes the hyperactivity and inability to focus. Someone without the condition takes the meds and they're wired for sound whereas those with it mellow out. As an example, some kids with ADHD are given a dose of Ritalin at night so they can fall asleep. Hell, I'm on the max dose of Adderall and have no issue taking a nap. If I don't have the drug in my system, I may want to sleep but the motivation comes from inability to get anything accomplished. Go to bed and try again tomorrow.
