do you unpack during hotel stays?
wife and i are in a "discussion".
we moved into an apartment. this is temporary. i pushed for a two bedroom apartment and my wife fought me the whole time. now she is thanking me. coming from a house to an apartment is a lesson in futility. stuff just isnt gonna fit. i just want to push the cardboard boxes into the second bedroom, shut the door, and start house shopping. my wife unpacked. what?!! she needs order. thinking about it, she unpacks in a hotel. more than one day, stuff is put away, luggage in the upper closet. i could dump my bags on the second bed and rummage thru the pile for my panties..no problemo. nobody uses those drawers and closets in hotels, right? i got another move in me. easy, my next one will be like with military precision. bums me out my wife unpacked most of it. ugh..even the sound of packing tape coming off the roll gives me a headache.

Depends on how long I'm staying.
Typically I do not unpack. I'll hang suits but that's about it. My wife unpacks. Might be a "nesting" thing that makes them feel more comfortable.

On our road trips if we are just staying overnight in a motel, we don't unpack. Once we get to the hotel we will spend a week in we unpack.

Neither of us unpack other than if the room has a fridge and if we need to hang anything.

Must be a guy thing...
Over night or weekend I will just live out of the suitcase. A week or more I will unpack to some degree, I will hang shirts and slacks in the closet, put my toiletries bag on the sink, but rarely bother putting anything in the drawers.

My lovely wife unpacks hang and put thing away. She doesn't touch my stuff because I aint got any. Same pair of shorts, underwear, shocks and all. Throw my bag down, get out the door and seek the adventure that's around the corner. Dig through it come night time . Yep, Scott is correct. Its a guy thing. With her and kids, somehow no matter how big the hotel room, I just can't seem to find a space for my lil' bag.
Happy wife, happy life, Vash. You just have to help her pack up again. Good luck with house hunting. You might be there for a little longer then expected. You are buying up in the winery area, are ya? Beautiful country up there. |

I'll hang nicer shirts and pants, but that's about it. My wife is a total neat freak but also gets grossed out by hotels, I've never seen her actually use the drawers. My weird hotel thing is that I pick up after myself - all of my stuff is hung up or in the bag, I pick up my bathroom stuff, throw away the trash, etc. Not sure who I'm trying to impress, maybe the hot maid that you always see in the porn flicks?

Single night stay, I probably won't even open the drawers unless I'm looking for a pen and paper.
More than one night, I haul everything out of the suitcase or whatever and put it away. I don't want to be looking at that thing every time I'm looking for something. Best Les

I never unpack. It's a great way to pick up bedbugs. I hang what will hang in the closet, never leave anything on the floor or in drawers.

I used to never unpack - I didn't see the point. Then I met my SO, who is fanatically neat. (and she is a bed-maker - I once watched her roll out of bed and have the bed made by the time both feet were on the ground, which I found extremely impressive.) I have been influenced by her, to good effect. Nowadays, if I'm only staying one night, I don't unpack. More than one, I do. It only takes a few minutes, and I've come to appreciate the psychological benefits. If we are traveling somewhere and get to our AirBnB (most common) or hotel or whatever, she will be completely unpacked within 5 minutes of walking into the room. Usually less. The benefit I have come to see in unpacking is that it gives you a useful "home" feeling. If you're in a hotel room you're obviously not home, but little things can have effects out of proportion to their size. I find this one of them.

If I'm going to be there more than a week, I'll unpack. What was funny, when I worked Field Service, I wouldn't unpack when I got home. I generally wasn't going to be there long enough.

More than 1 night I unpack, put bags in closet. Takes 5 mins and my clothes don't like I got dressed in the hamper. After a few times of digging in and out of a suitcase it starts to look like a bomb went off in there.

This is one of the things that I love about women. They make a home, and you are part of it. I say enjoy this as one of the quirks that makes her who she is.

Clearly you all travel with women who don't travel much. Thuy just came off 7 years of jobs with 75% or more time spent traveling. She doesn't unpack anything! Hell she barely packs! So used to be in gone, we both just toss some crap in a bag and go! We went to Hawaii with one backpack and a carry on for the two of us!

I'm surprised no one has thrown in the token "Unpack? Heck I was only there a few hours and didn't have any luggage..."

Not so!
Travel for fun is one thing and travel for work is a whole nuther animal. Mine travels lots (she flies standby for free, so she can afford it more than most people), almost all of it for fun.Quote:
