				My Easter Presant

The wife of a friend of mine bought him a 80 foot boat a year ago Christmas, it had just undergone a $3 million dollar refurbish, we went out on it for the New Port Boat Parade. We were looking at the two 1000 hp Cat engines and one of my buddies said we should get together and buy something like this. I said we couldn't pay the taxes or the docking fees, let alone the boat. Anyway, this morning he called and said he was taking the boat to Sitka for the summer and wanted to know if I wanted to come up and fish for a week. I said, with no hesitation at all, well yeah. He told me the dates and said get back to him when I talked to my wife. I called back an hour later with my ticket from OC/Santa Ana to Sitka. I worked in SE for a summer, the only towns I saw were Petersburg and Juneau, never got to Sitka. This will be great and I hope there is some catching. | ||

Are the current Marine diesels subject to the same emissions equipment issues as the over the road and off-highway units?

Hell yea, that sounds like alot of fun. A guys trip, on a big boat, fishing, beer, beautiful Alaskan scenery ? I would agree to go in a heartbeat, and figure out what to tell my wife later.

On something that size, with 2 turbo diesels running at cruising speed (maybe 12 knots) burn rate is measured in gallons per hour, because miles per gallon doesn't apply (less than 1 MPG).

On further thought Dean. If you get a chance to check with your friend about his crew for the trip up. I'd be happy to talk with him about filling any gaps in crew he may have for for that trip. I bring 25 + years small boat charter skipper, 50k + miles offshore cruising experience, one season working in Alaskan waters. Yada, yada, pretty strong boating background. And am very interested in spending more time up that way. Cheers Richard | ||
