My first ABSTRACT, in stone

It has taken me two years to even say the word but I have been working on the Polar Bear for so long I needed a break. I had this piece of Translucent Peach Alabaster since one of the trips to Prescott looking for a home. I finally did something with it. It was tough, about half way into it I started carving a snake through it. I brought it home and showed my wife, she said "what the hell are you doing, this is supposed to be abstract" the next day I cut the snake out, cut some holes in it and moved on. I cast the base in bronze, the bottom was a free pour and the upper section was cast then welded to the base, heated and I applied some patina. It's ok, my first ever real abstract. I will call it Portals in the sun.
Photography is hard with this stuff, but it might look good in someone's girlfriends beauty shop

Hmm, yeah, I can't either. And if you try to browse to the URL, it gives a file not found
I've added a space to the URLs so we could see them. Very odd. I wonder if Wayne is working on the servers or something.

What a tease, Dean . Are you whipping your audience into a frenzy of anticipation.

I'm courious about the process, does the piece of material talk to you? Guiding you to the natural shape within?
Or do you start with a certian shape/ form in mind? And craft the material into the shape?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Cheers Richard

I don't know what's happening, I never had trouble with pictures before. As for the process, it's my first try at a full on abstract, some before, fish and such have been a little abstract but you know they are supposed to be fish. I really didn't have anything in mind when I started this one. I actually thought I would round the whole thing, not leave the edges natural but when I started I liked the look of the natural.
I will try a picture of an abstracty fish in Orange Calcite.

no, they won't post

I posted the pictures but they came up sideways, I will try again tomorrow and if it's the same I will turn them first and try it again.

I copied the pictures, turned them right a quarter but they still printed out here left a quarter. Progress tho, at least they post. Tomorrow.

You have to take the picture in landscape mode when using a phone, in order for them to upload properly.

I'm not normally an abstract kind of guy, but that's really cool.

Neat design Dean, beautiful red stone. Did you say you got it near Prescott Az?
Really like the puddle of metal stand also.

Cheers Richard
