Fiat screwed themselves here B4 in the late 1970s.
They did not learn, transparently .

Sorry, bad joke, minis are barely better and cost as much as a full sized BMW to service!
Just get it good enough to trade in...

Every time I see these Fiat threads I think of my two Minis. Fun car but what an incredible POS. Bar none the most poorly designed and constructed cars that I have ever owned.

Looks like Fiat could use a Mussolini...after all he did make the trains run on time.

Doesn't Fiat own Ferrari and Maseratti? Hmmmm

Did Mercedes ever recover from owning Chrysler?

With all these horror stories of unreliability and poor build quality going back decades and yet FIAT is still one of the largest car companies in the world.

(Fiat is number 7. Honda is 8)

What does that tell you about the car industry as a whole? Nothing matters more than build numbers.

Are they crap in Europe, too?

afterburn 549 04-09-2016 12:41 PM

Remember in Europe a car is driven very very little.
They have a train that works and goes to everywhere .

Europeans drive an average of 14.000 miles a year...American's just a hair less.
Why do you think they built the world's most advanced autobahns and autostradas?
What you don't see in Europe are pickup trucks...when they need them, they rent them.
Other than that, we're not much different.

I got one of the little Fiat 500's as a rental car. Now I've owned both Jaguar and fiats from the 70's so let's just say that I am familiar with interesting electrical issues and having to push my own car...

The little Fiat 500 rental car was a BLAST to drive! But the build quality was absolutely abysmal... These are utter schit boxes. I flogged the snot out of it for a week and turned it back in to the rental agency. You need to treat these like a bad first date. Get out as soon as you can, even if you have to gnaw your own arm off...
