Dickwad. No one sad dick about Putin.

We have defenses that can deal with a missile but if they wanted to drop some dumb bombs on the ship they would be screwed IF they thought they were doing another dry run. If they were going to attack for real all Russia would have to show for it is a bunch of dead aircrew. |

seems like it was a fly by. nothing more.
what's with all the hatred and panic? sheesh. |
If only our president and armed forces were as big of a big tough guy as internet keyboard warriors are, we'd be all set.

PARF, the "P" stands for politics, as in, political posturing. This is like the scrub on the football team trying to start a fight with the star on the opposing team. Best thing to do is laugh, ask if that is the best they have and play on. If they were doing this a lot, I would have men on deck peeling potatoes with instructions to toss them in the air as Maverickovich and Gooski approach for their flyby. Even if you have a 1/100 shot of hitting, eventually you are going to have a Russian bird in the water without a shot fired. Oh, BTW, they were not "unidentified" |

What I am asking is what would you have the captain do?

Not the first time, just awhile back they let Iran do it. Weak "leader" we have. |
AFAIK, painting a plane with a missile lock is the equivalent of pointing a pistol at someone's head and cocking the hammer back. I highly doubt we've ever done that with these fly-bys, but it would be an escalation if we did. Until then, why would Russia stop? It makes Putin look strong and us look weak. There's no downside for him. China didn't think twice about sacrificing a pilot back in 2001, and they got a huge intel and propaganda boost out of it. I don't think Putin has anything to lose here and he knows we won't do anything about it.
BTW, why would a USN ship ever let any plane get that close to it? All kinds of bad things could happen, by accident or design. |
Should have seen what we were doing to news helos in the gulf ~1988. And unmarked small surface craft.

I didn't ask what you would do as captain, I asked what you would have the captain do. As in, pretend you are our leader and your orders to this guy would be? |
