Bass Pro Shops to Buy Cabelas for $5.5B

Hmmm , I did not see this one coming. I wonder what kind of impact it will have the in house brands for each company...

It's always good for consumers when the largest players in a space merge. Just look at the banking, airline, and cable industries as examples.

The in-house brands for each probably come out of the same sweat shop in China.

I wonder how it will affect the brick & mortar stores. Not exactly "easy" to fill a 100,000sqft log cabin.

I have $600 unused on my cash back Cabela's card. I can't imagine I'm under any threat of losing it. I was saving for a wheel gun.

I read somewhere:
-A hotel chain makes more money off PPV porn than renting rooms.
-McDs makes more money off real estate than selling food.

Bass Pro Shops are one of the most enjoyable trips one can take if interested in outdoor activities. Hopefully they will have even better product at a lower cost due to the merger.

The McD part is true.

I doubt the first one is still true, nor do they make money off local calls anymore.

Indeed enjoyable on those nasty rainy Sat. morning. Nice to take in the occasional seminar of interest. Cheap thrills for the kiddies too. Lots of activities for them, educational hands on to nature awareness. They also love the giant fresh water aquarium to walking in and around the new boats, all indoor.

Will Cabelas be rebranded, or remain as a subsidiary of BPS ?

Sucks - cabelas is a notch above bps in quality and service - and has no outlet in CA - meaning no sales tax on mail order items.

Good news for me. The Cabelas 10 minutes from my house pales in comparison to the BPS 30 miles away.

What I meant by my original post was "back-fill" or re-rent out a space built for a specific purpose. It's fairly easy to re-purpose a Wally World store, but a Cab or BPS, not so much.

We have both here in CO and there are certain items I will go to each for, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Hopefully they can still run independently somewhat.

Why would you think they would have a "better product" at a lower cost? They now have to pay someone 6billion dollars for selling the same crap. Prices will go up.

I greatly prefer shopping at Cabelas, hopefully it won't suck like Bass Pro does.

Sad, sad news. Cabelas is head and shoulders over BPS. their house brand hunting stuff is great quality. I don't even flip through BPS catalogs when I get them.

Local news this morning said that BPS plans to keep and "grow" the Cabelas brand.
