Help with an old Alpine head unit
The 87 cab I just bought has an Alpine 7517 head unit. From what I understand these were early-90s units. I bought an 8-pin MBUS to 1/8" to hook up my phone, but it's not recognizing it. From what I've read, it should be universal, though it needs to be put in aux mode. However my unit has no setup button, just a CD selector, which does nothing.
Does anyone have a manual for this model? Or familiarity with it? I suspect I might be SOL, which isn't a big deal - the cable was $5. But I'd rather not buy another head unit if I don't have to. Thanks.

That's not an alpine 7157, it's something else.

Is your goal just to listen to AUX? Why not get the cassette to aux adapter tape.

I highly doubt anything that old has an AUX port. You can buy head units without a CD player that have bluetooth and AUX ports for 30 bucks for a cheap POS from walmart to name brand ones at 75+. I'd just get another one. The other option is you can get a Chinese made FM adapter on ebay for under 10 bucks that runs through the FM radio. Obviously with that, sound quality takes a hit, but they have bluetooth and AUX ports.

You are correct, but that is not the issue here. The OP stated he bought an M-BUS adapter. A lot of the older head-units with CD changer controls use an M-BUS connecter for the changer, which can be used (via the aforementioned adapter) to connect a phone/mp3 player in place of the CD changer. However, it only works if everything "plays nice" together.
