Dash cams are ugly as hell and a theft incentive.

This unit is dual (front rear), a hidden brain, and is wi-fi enabled so you can view videos on your phone. This is the one I'm buying, it's totally discrete. It has all the major features except GPS (no thank you)

I've had it hooked up now for just over a week and still getting the hang of how I want to use it as far as settings on the menu.

The video is really good and it even has audio.

I had to buy the TF card but that was no big deal....

I have the same and I wonder how you get really good video...

Mine sucks like a Dyson... Can't even read the licence plate from the car 15 feet in front of me....:mad:
Recording is not fluent at all..

Could it be settings?
16 GB Scandisk Pro data card.

ok, re-read this thread and it could be the memory card... (I think mine's only a class 1?)

I need a new dash cam now.

The one I was running melted. Not the actual unit but some adhesive used inside melted and ran all over the place permanently adhering the memory card in its slot.

Grr.

Have a couple of spare older iPhones so may just convert them.

I wound up doing this one: hard wired to car with battery protector. it works OK, but now and then it locks up, needs a reset. I did the full F/R installation on my STI.

It works OK, but the biggest issue is the clarity at night, make sure whoever you buy can work thru window tint, and is reliable.

OK these cheap-o dash cams are not cutting it so I just ordered a new one from Amazon - it's the first model in this video review.....the Viofo A119 from Spy Tech....should be here by May 1....will keep you posted....

Just found that same model on eBay for a little less in case it's of interest:

Viofo A119 1440P 30fps Car Dash Camera - Authorized Dealer | eBay

OK now I found one on eBay from Spy Tech, who was the Amazon third party seller...for $30 less!

Cancelled my Amazon order and bought the one on eBay...$69.95 out the door.....

I have the Viofo 119S. Bought it on Amazon. There is a polarizing lens filter that pops on which makes a big difference in sunny climates.

The video is in 3 min snips and clear as a bell. Get a 128gb Transcendence micro SD on Amazon, they work best. Scan Disk won't format properly.

I certainly could do with one. Six weeks ago I got knocked off the motorbike by a guy coming around a blind corner on the wrong side of the road. Then... two days ago a lady was passing some cyclists on a blind corner and nearly cleaned me up coming the other way. Either I start driving a large truck for protection or get a dashcam.

Cheap may sound attractive but in reality you need something decent.

Why? ... The camera sits in the car unused for days and if it doesn't have a good internal battery it will blank the date and time occasionally when it's switched on.

So, So what? The video are all over the place and out of time date sequence.

This still applies. Mine has GPS so it checks/corrects the date and time when you switch it on.

A dash cam over writes the oldest video when the memory card is full so what happens if the videos are out of date/time sequence?

Seriously, get a good one preferably with GPS built in.

Yeah, but if they find out that you had a cam, and then deleted the video, that's bad.

Here's the dash cam I installed...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFAK888/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is the "hardwire" kit....

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0GR4ON/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And the Micro SD. Sandisk cards have a proprietary formatting that isn't compatible with some cameras, this is recommended by Spytech/Viofo...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WS63GZK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And the camera installed....

Bought this same one for my Honda DD. Works OK. It's a good intro to dash cams at least. Can be found on Amazon for approx $18 now. The SD card (not included) costs more than the camera.

Baz 04-25-2017 09:21 AM

Hey Craig.....thanks for all the info. Wish they would include all that stuff when they sell them!

Thinking about going with the 64GB size card instead of the 128GB. What do you think? I don't think I need that much memory.

The 128g is good for 7.5 hours of video. You probably won't need that much. The hardwire kit is great and the camera mount makes it so easy to slide the camera on and off. I don't leave it on when parked every time, mostly just when driving in LA commuter traffic in the AM and PM.

This accident happened in front of my dad and me in his truck a while back. Captured with his Garmin NuviCam. The emergency folks sure did find it handy to review footage of the accident at the scene! Thanks goodness no one was really hurt.
