What's the typical installation?
Snake the wire around the windshield and splice it to what?

Typical installation is simple mount camera by mirror. Run wire under headliner down side bar under dash and plug into cig. lighter. You can also hard wire it by using a piggyback breaker in your fuse panel. I got the blackveiw last year it has front and rear cameras. Picture quality is close to a go pro. I also bought a second mounting kit so it goes from dd to Porsche. I have a cheaper one in the wife's truck. Neither works with a class 10 chip you have to downgrade to a lesser chip. I bought them to use like a go pro.

I ran mine between the headliner and windshield, over to the driver's side pillar and down to the fuse panel.

Removed the 30 amp fuse for adjusting the driver's seat (always hot) and crimped the "add a fuse" (bottom of pic) to the red wire and grounded the black wire. The "add a fuse" has 2 slots for fuses, one for the 30 amp and one for the new fuse for the camera.

I don't leave home w/o one. My 911 has a front and rear Garmin unit.

Great for protecting yourself in the event of a fender bender with some dickhead that pulls out in front of you or rear ends your ride because they are too stupid to realize you have a LOT better brakes then they do.

Got my dash cam yesterday and she had her maiden voyage this afternoon....action starts about 45 seconds in. Have it set up for 3 minute segments - so this was the first one. Nothing dramatic...just leaving my house and heading south on the main drag and then a left heading east - taking some back roads to get to my destination.

You can hear me exhale as I approach the 3 way stop at Beachway and then I say out loud "Schwab" as I pass a realtor's sign on the right, whose last name is Schwab...ha ha...I guess I was just talking to myself.

I took a Lyft ride the other day where the (male) driver told me a woman had filed a complaint against him, said he hit on her repeatedly during the ride. His dash cam, which was facing forward, but captured sound, saved him.

Baz, why is your video BLUE?
Something is clearly not right.
Unless you're driving a bulletproof Brinks truck

A930Rocket 05-05-2017 10:10 AM

The camera is probably in the tinted upper portion of the windshield.

As far as I can tell.....it's actually below the tinted part of the windshield, which makes this even more baffling.

That said, I'm going to shoot some video at a lower point and see how that looks by comparison. Seems to be the first logical step to take in troubleshooting. Will post my results....

Did you buy the polarizing filter? With your sunny climate you'll probably need it. It just snaps on to the lens.

Have not pulled the trigger on one of those, yet, Craig.

Do you think that's responsible for the blue tint in my vids?

I shot some more video this afternoon through the lower part of my windshield as well as out through the side window - with window down - and it still had the blue tint.

Then I look at video like this and don't see any blue being corrected:

Guess I will get one anyway and see what happens....probably a good thing to have regardless.

Thanks again for your input, Craigster! :)

My Garmin has a windshield suction cup, the base has a magnet for easy removal since I have a cab and would prefer to not have some douche take a knife to it to get the dash cam. Power cable runs along the top of the windscreen and I plug into the glove box light circuit.

The rear facing cam is suspended from the roll bar. Not functional with the top up but I rarely drive it with it up. If it gets cold, heat on and windows up, top down and I am still toasty with my 993 HEs.

Rear cam power cord runs down the roll bar, the rocker on the passenger side to the same connector for the glove box. Both are fused (10amp) and work very well.

This one has lane departure and forward collision alert, anyone have experience with the effectiveness?

ADAS: Include LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System), FCWS (Forward collision warning system) and FCMD (Forward Car Motion Detection) function

Mine has both the "incident" monitor and lane diversion alarm. Constantly going off with my stiff suspension. Turned them silent and don't miss them.

Prolly worthwhile if you had a cushy grandma ride but not in a sporty car....

Did the lense come from the manufacturer with a blue film to protect it?

recycled sixtie 05-07-2017 04:17 AM

I am impressed Baz that you took the time to take the memory chip out of the car and download it to this forum.

So far I have mine installed in the Miata and pointed the dash cam in the forward direction hoping it works. I suppose I should take the memory chip out and play it back to see if it is functioning.

I did like the palm trees in your video. That is something we don't get here!:)

Tiny, stealth, affordable.

+1

settings, it has lots of them. (accessed on a read-file that lives on the micro-SD.)

Bingo! Doug wins the Internet today!

I thought about this post while I was heading out to the landfill this morning and sure enough....blue film from the manufacturer. Nothing about it mentioned in the user guide. I have to admit - I always try to set things up without relying on user guides....and of course....this time when I did - they blew it. Guess I should have noticed it when I took the camera out of the box. That lens is so small though....

Anyway - THANKS Doug!!!

From today...and NO blue tint! :D
