I will add to the poll results that the solution 1st posted by Seahawk is the ticket.

My dog did the same as yours once and captured a skunk. Luckily I wasn't hit but the stench was otherworldly. I was struck by how much different/worse the smell of a fresh and direct hit was vs. the typical "I smell skunk" experience. Not something I will ever forget. The baking soda, peroxide, dishsoap mixture really neutralized the odor well (not 100%, but had instant effect).

That's for sure! The real deal is unbelievably rancid, almost smells acidic. Today that "I smell skunk" smell is on my hands and face, on Tank, and generally permeating the house. It's almost a relief compared to the first 30 minutes.

So...Craig, Does your wife know about this yet or are you going to leave it as a surprise "welcome home honey" present?

My stupid dog got skunked twice. The second time she got past me at the door and clear into the bedroom and jumped in our bed. It was horrid. The natures miracle stuff worked well, but it took a LOT and had to soak everything with it and let it set NOT rinsing it off. Luckily after the first incident I keep a gallon of natures miracle handy. Had my SIL come over and give us the sniff test after 3 hrs and she couldn't smell it. My olfactory senses were completely gone by then.

LOL! No, I gave her the heads up. She comes home later tonight. Olfactory receptors fatigue quickly. I don't smell it on me anymore. I can still smell it on Tank. I asked my neighbor to come over and see if she smells it in the house. The look on her face two steps into the house said it all!

I'm skunked daily, well not really but.... My little guy was "de-skunked" right after he was born. Yes I have a pet skunk

That is soo cool! I kept a baby raccoon for a couple months in high school. Does the skunk respond to human attention? Is it a good pet?

SweetWaterSurprise, That is one cute little skunk. Brown? I have never seen a brown skunk. Ours are all black and white. My dad had a de-natured skunk when he was a boy.

He is the traditional black and white now. That was a pic when we was 5 months old and was much more brown in color. We considered getting a white one as well since we had never seen one before. He is very social , follows us around, sleeps on our laps, asks for treats, tells us exactly when he wants his breakfast and dinner... We have numerous animals and he gets along with all of them as if they were other skunks. He uses a litter box so it's pretty low maintenance overall.

Skunks are no joke. We have a lot of them in the hills of Los Angeles, it seems like Los Feliz frequently smells like skunk. What is really crazy is that from a distance, it's not a bad smell once you get used to it. Kind of an acquired taste but I've heard many people voice the same thing.

Up close, it's an entirely different matter. It can be catastrophic.

It's also funny how much "skunk weed" marijuana smells like diluted/distant skunk. Easy to see where it got its name.

My dog of many years ago got skunked once and I remember the tomatoe juice bath and lots of regular shampoo. It wears off. I also remember a college roommate who banged a particularly nasty skank during a drunken escapade and then walking around the house w his dork in a glass of tomatoe juice the next day. He just could not get rid of the smell. Good times.

All MJ smells like skunk. Only a cigarette can compare to stink of a skunk.
