I laughed at a guy in a Boxster tonight

Wife and I were walking in a small town tonight and a guy driving a nice dark blue Boxster proceeded to put his car in reverse to paralell park. The guy was a muscle built, tight tee shirt wearing, dark sunglass wearing, 30 year old in a small North Carolina town. He stalled the car right in front of us as we were walking across the street in front of him. I politely turned my head the other direction ( trying not to embarress him) and proceeded to laugh. My wife chastised me and called me rude.

Am I a douche? I though tthe scene was funny.

P.S. He muttered something like "that wasn't good" as we walked by.
P.S.S. I'm sure I've stalled my P-car in the past.......(I think )

Possibly, yes.

I have a friend in Houston who is the nicest guy you could meet.

He has a BEAUTIFUL 997 C2S, and

He drives it poorly.

Because his left leg is made out of carbon fiber and aluminum, and he's not going to let it own him.

So. . . I doubt you're a douche, but you just never know, and that's what the ol' "inside voice" is for. Or the "inside laugh."

Maybe he has a LFW?

I have stalled my 993 ... a few times thanks to the LWF! Alternatively I have to rev the daylight out of it where everyone will think I'm the douche! I know what I prefer!

Boxsters (maybe all newer Porsches?) have weird clutches. When I first absconded with my son's 2001 S, I stalled that darn thing more times than I care to remember.

This! Kudos to Boxer guy for buying/driving a stick!

Also consider if he is 30 something very possibly his first car with a clutch.

I grew up driving work trucks so got pretty good with a clutch... but pretty sure I have stalled a few times.

Let him without a stall cast the first stone.

yes you were, I never laugh at people when they stall their car, there are so many reasons and you have no idea why.

That is just the exact right sentiment.

To the OP, your wife was right...especially after you heard him say, "that wasn't good". I'd have laughed with him, not at him. We have all been there.

The first car that I ever drove when I was 14 in Japan was a left hand drive stick, I didn't drive it much, I think it was a bit much on my dad's nerves. The next car I drove, and the first one that I really learned to drive in was a '76 Chevette with a stick. My first car was a '65 Impala with a stick, Most of the cars that I've driven and owned over the years have been a stick. I've rented a U-haul truck with a non-syncro first gear. I can also drive a stick without using the clutch. Every car that I've owned since 1999 has been a manual. I'm just setting the stage to show that I've got a fair amount of experience driving a stick.

I've stalled my boxster several times. It's embarrassing and a little shocking. I do try to start off at low RPMS and not slip the clutch much, which probably exacerbates it. I think part of it is the computer programming of the e-gas pedal. WHen I switch to sport mode, I don't stall it. In sport mode the pedal feels more linear. In non-sport mode, it feels really soft at tip in.

Respect for driving a stick. I laugh at the automatics.

You know people are thinking , " look at the douche in the Porsche who cant drive", when it happens " , but it happens to all of us . I always stall her 3 series wagon. It is sort of a slug, and you have to rev it up to get it to move. I don't like to slide the clutch, and every once in a while, it gets me . She picks on me about it .
I could care less, I heel toe my dumptruck

The crazy thing is that you can start my car in 2nd if you want, but sometimes 1st isn't happy. I think it's mostly when it's cold, but not always. I think it's mostly just me not tipping into the gas enough.

My car revs pretty freely, but I would love a light weight flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. I remember thinking that my bone stock '88 targa seemed to rev like a racecar to me when I first got it, and that's one of the things about the miatas was that they always felt like they revved slow and must have head a lot of rotating mass.

I've been told that "proper" use of the clutch should always have you on the edge of a stall. Supposed to lead to longer clutch life.

I've stalled the 911 a time or two; at friends houses, in intersections, at cars and coffee.

It happens.

People chuckle, and I chuckle with them.
