California weather. is it the best?

i hear it all the time. CA has the best weather.

no humidity. mild extremes. etc. i have not been everywhere in the USA. is there better?

just curious.

plus i'm trying to psych myself out to mountain bike after work..it is a blistering 88-90 degs. i suppose if there is a downside, i've become weather "soft". in el paso, i would ice my camelback and hit the trails in the 100's.

I've never found better consistent weather. San Diego is where it's at as far as I'm concerned. It really makes it hard to consider moving anywhere else. Yeah, taxes suck, everything's too expensive, but that weather...

From my visits out there the only thing wrong with California weather is that it happens in California

hard to beat the Palo Alto, CA weather.
Cool bay breeze everyday at 2:00 cools it down on hot days.

Go north on the peninsula and it's cold & foggy.
South to Los Gatos it can get hot on some summer days.

When heatwave strikes, it's 30 min to cool San Francisco or Half Moon Bay.

No way, Hawaii has he best weather I've found.
Been on the mainland 2.5 years now looking all over for weather I can enjoy year around. All up and down the west coast, fell in love with Oregon and Washington coasts in summer weather, Az, Co, now in Fla driving from the keys to the panhandle on the west coast.
Pretty nice now in Stienhatchee on the upper west coast. But it will be hot for the most of the next couple of months.

Yes So Cal is one of the nicer weather areas on the mainland but the congestion and costs puts it off my map.
Somewhere just north of Santa Barbara would get beyond the worst of the so Cal craziness , but still expensive anywhere near enough to the coast to stay comfortable in the summer.

I'm clearly a weather whimp, my comfort range is hi60s to low 80s. Like I said weather whimp. That's what living in Hawaii too long will do for you.
Combine that with an aversion to crowds and congestion makes for challenges.

The Seychelles in the Indian Ocean do come close.

Happy hunting Vash.

Cheers Richard

Seattle weather is great if you dont mind a little cloud cover and are looking to avoid extremes. Mild winters and you cant beat the weather from June to October.

Perfect weather everyday is boring.
I like the seasons.
But to each their own.

Have a friend on Whidbey Island, very nice there.
So I put a few points in that general area in my phone, to watch over the winter.
I know it was an El Niño winter, but weeks and weeks with the sun not showing up would probably get to me.
Sure do love the area otherwise.

Only other place I have lived in the US was Southern Louisiana. No, it is not better there! I was okay with the heat, but the skeeters were just killing every outdoor activity you could come up with.

NorCal vs. SoCal, I actually like NorCal a bit better. It has a hint of seasons and isn't dry year round.

I like the CA North Coast. Also not considered the best weather, but nothing beats a beautiful day in late summer there.

I lived in SoCal my entire life. If you live close (~2 miles) from the coast the temperatures are very pleasant year round. The cost in $$ is insane and the marine layer can blot out the sun for a couple months most days. Congestion makes getting around difficult. Moving a couple miles inland and you are free from the marine layer but temperatures have bigger swings with summer time 10F+ over the coast. Another couple miles inland and summertime temperatures can go up another 10F.

Best year round climate in SoCal is Lompoc/Santa Maria/Santa Barbara/Carpinteria/Ventura/Oxnard

Here in the cascade mountains of WA on the east side the advertisement is we have 300 days of sunshine. Humidity is next to nothing and when some summer days creep up to 100, jump into the car to drive to the San Juan Islands on the west side of the state were the ocean breeze is cooler.

The beauty of living here is when I am driving to the west side all the west siders are driving here, so traffic is always bad in the opposite direction.

Ok Vash, barring costs, remoteness etc. hands down Hawaii has the mildest weather.
Moving away from the term "best" cause that varies for each of us depending on what we like to do, not much skiing or snowmobiling in Hawaii.

But mild stable weather it's there. Plus you can pick how wet or dry you want by moving from one side of an island to another, leaward side for dry, windward for wet, variations in between .
Kauai is 140+ inches on the north shore, around 20 inches on the west side.

We have big seasonal changes in the ocean. Big north swells in winter. Some South swells in the summer. Actually quite dramatic changes in that way.

Ok the odd hurricane may spank you every ten years or so, no place is perfect.

Can you tell I'm missing it a bit?

Cheers Richard

It really depends on which area. Check weather.com for temps in El Centro right now and tell me if it is good weather for outdoor activities.

How funny, I just received an alert that the road to Hanalei is at flood stage.
I did say its rains a bit.

Guess I better let Led head know to start his visit by heading to the west side.

When I visited Seattle it was pretty darn cold (mind you in SoCal if it dips into the 40's we break out the parkas and ski gloves.) other wise a beautiful city in a great location.
