Bogus BMW headroom specs

Anyone else notice that the specs for headroom are off by about 3 inches? Looking for a newer car and was considering a 3 or 4 series BMW, looked at specs 4 series claimed 1011mm 39.8" and the 3 series was 1023mm 40.2" they are not even close, I can just fit in a Subaru BRZ that claims 944mm, 37.1" with my head near the headliner.

I'm thinking that the junior design person measured from the seat to the top of the roof. Sent a email to BMW and they replied that the specs are based of a euro car, curious what other specs are not correct for the NA cars.

My thought as well. Lots of euro models don't have sunroofs, most US models do.

These cars did have sunroofs, probably would add 1.5" the roof was extremely thick, it would be nice if they gave these dimensions, the sales rep said sunroof delete and manual seats would add some room but could not verify how much.

Y'all are funny.
"sunroof delete"

Just order a car from BMW to be made without a sunroof then.

Most cars in Europe don't have a sunroof, because we don't select that option.
It's not a "delete" it's "not picking that option code" (and not paying for it either).

A sunroof is generally standard equipment on many European models imported into the US, so you can't just "fail to check the box". The importer checks it for you. It's impossible to avoid a sunroof on many cars imported here.

I have a sunroof delete on my M235i. I would definitely say there is more headroom.

I wish my 911 had the sunroof delete. In over two decades of driving in nearly 60,000 miles I have opened it 3 or 4 times wile actually driving the car. It is just a waste of mass and useless as the vanity mirror in the sun visor.

Have three cars with sunroof, don't use the S/R. What a waste.

off course you can

You can order your car built to order.
Like pretty much every European does.

We don't buy our new cars off the lot ,with preselected options

I ordered my car, picked my options with the BMW configurator
then told the dealer, get me that car

Wait 2-3 months, car arrives, exactly as ordered.

Explain to me why you would buy a premium car like that, and have somebody else decide for you what options you need????
You are the customer, you can decide what you buy.
It is a buyers market you know.

I just got a 2018 BMW 320i
I am 6 feet tall, plenty of headroom !
This car has sport package with the sport seats, very comfy.
I can see the ordering the car you want thing. That would be the way to go.
The dealer I went to in Dallas/Plano has a sample rack for the interior leathers and a rack for exterior paint colors, very impressive !

Typically in the USA the sunroof is standard on a "premium" car. To not get a sunroof is an option, hence the "sunroof delete" comment. I had a 996TT where sunroof delete actually showed up on the options list.

I love sunroofs on my daily drivers but they do eat into the headroom. No sunroof on my GT3!

I do feel like in the USA premium car buyers feel like they are being "shorted" if they don't get a sunroof, even if they never use it LOL.

It's really simple, let me explain this to you again. We have different option lists in the United States. Usually, a sunroof is standard, not optional. In that case, there is no option to delete the sunroof.

I have special ordered many, many European cars over the last 35 years and I do not recall a single order that I could place where I could delete the sunroof.

We generally have a lot more standard equipment on cars here, you generally have a lot more equipment that is optional.

330i
no options selected
tadaaaa no sunroof.

By the looks of it for the 4 series BMW's website does force it in the build your own.
But since they build them in the same factory in Europe, for Europe and for ROW.
So the discussion is just how BMW USA decides to market.
It has nothing to do with how the cars are built or how BMW processes orders, It's One big system linked to their computers in Munich.

It really is a question of telling BMW to build it like you want, rather then build it like the importer usually orders them.

Hey BMW, I want a 440i
No i dont want a sunroof
No i won't pay for a sunroof or sunroof delete.

Build me one like you do for the europeans : withtouh a sunroof.

Oh, you can't do that?
Then I can't buy a BMW, i'll buy a Mercedes then.

And then see how long it takes them to order you the car without sunroof.

And in the end, you guys already get cheaper bmw's then we do..

So even if you pay extra to order it bespoke, i don't really see the problem

You would think that that is a simple thing, but that's not how it works. I've tried to get things done that were not on the option list for the car I was ordering and they wouldn't do it.
