In car video from this weekend in the Lotus

Awhile back we had a thread about setting up a cheap in car video setup. Here is the result from this past weekend using the setup and windshield mount. I have a long way to go as a driver but cool that the video setup worked out so well:

Excellent! Even at full screen the video was very sharp. Also really like the info bar.

Cool video!

I notice your RPM indicator turns red at 9500 rpm on the video image. My dash indicator turns red at 7000ish rpm. I think I am babying my Elise after watching your video as I am shifting as soon as I see red.

Any modifications making you comfortable pushing to 9500?

The car is mostly stock. I am running the BOE TorqueTune200NA which I don't recommend. It does raise the redline light to 8500 (edit - 8000), you hit the rev limiter at 9500 (edit - Revlimit at 8500 not 9500). I think the factory version was a bit conservative. As you know when cold it comes on before the cam changeover which does not change. That engine runs like a scalded cat...so I just let it rev and don't worry about it. Sector111 is coming out with an ECU tune soon for the NA cars, it will require a Cup airbox, but should have good drivability as they are taking the time to do it right and fully test it. The problem w/ the BOE tune is that it runs awesome from 6000-8500, but other than that range the car runs like crap, especially at cold start.

I had an elise and now a sc version, reving it out another 1000rpm seems a bit over my comfort zone. The good thing is a new head costs less than a new headlight prob.

Its funny you mention the BOE tune. It seems like you can never get any straightforward feedback on lotus talk. I had been interested in a tune for my 07 for a long time and the forum is filled with fanaticism, but not a lot of data. I got PMs from a few people telling me some of the tunes weren't working at all for them but they didn't want to post it on the forums.

Sorry I misspoke there it does hit rev limit at 8500, not 9500. Red light comes on at 8000. I don't think the tune changes the redline or rev limit for an NA car, it just raises when the red light comes on once hot. Redline stock is still 8500 per the owners manual. As stock the light comes on at 7000 but this is not the redline (6000 when cold). If you watch the video you can hear it blip a couple times at 8500 when I hit it momentarily. I believe fuel cut off occurs when you are more than 2 seconds at 8500. The tune does lower the cam changeover to about 5700 RPM from the stock 6200 similar to other tunes out there.

I have talked w/ others on the BOE tunes who have a lot of drivability problems, apparently it's much worse on the Rev supercharged cars. I am looking forward to the new tunes coming out from Sector111.

Here's some video from this past weekend running with NASA HPDE at Pueblo Motorsports Park. I switched to a GoPro and laptimer on my phone. Having trouble keeping the Bluetooth OBDII dongle sync'd but you can see the gauges now w/ the helmet cam. The spin was completely my fault, I lifted early before the car was straight during throttle steering. My next addition is a harness setup and track tires. I just got a trailer so the car is now basically track-only.

Nice vids.

Is that top video with camera mounted to your helmet?

Original video was on the windshield using my cell phone and TrackAddict app. The two above are a GoPro on the side of my helmet.

Before you spun, I do not hear your tires. So you were not at the limits in that turn where you lifted?

Good stuff. I missed the first thread and will read it but have been wondering if iPhone would take good MC video, is that your phone visible in mount in second set of videos?

I'll probably break down and buy a GoPro but was wondering about a mount for phone.

No tire chirps... I think I lifted and slammed the weight to the front tires at the same time as the track had a dip and the car was not straight yet.

Good looking video. Timely thread revival. I was talking to a guy today about a 2.0l ecoboost crate engine to put in an Elise. Sounds like it would make for a fun 300hp rocket!

Look at the Garmin Virb Elite as well. Also excellent quality video and GPS enabled for basic telemetry type info. A friend of mine flies airshows and records all of his runs, he preferred the Virb over the GoPro after trying both.

Sure would. Probably cheaper to just add a REV300 or REV400 HP supercharger kit to the 2zz engine though.

Personally I'm not going for big power... I need to become a better driver on the track first.
