New top Gear ? opinions
No thread yet ?
Chris harris was as good as expected. Matt leBlanc much better than expected. The main presenter - Chris (evans?) was not very good. I find his voice very annoying, high pitched, I cannot believe he is a radio celebrity with a voice like that... Not the best, but I'll give it time.... |

I only caught pieces during breaks in the Cup game, but from what I saw I was unimpressed. I couldn't figure out why Evans was constantly YELLING during the studio segments. I am sure it will get better over time, how much better though is the question.

I tried.
They can keep it. I can not say what it / is not missing. The old Top Gear was amusing and sometimes very informative. From there the other "top gears" are pretty much missing all the gears.

Face it, top gear just isn't the same without clarkson, the short one and capt slow.
A few years ago Adam Carolla had a car show. Can't remember the name of it but it seemed to be well produced and well casted. What happened to it?

was wondering the same thing (haven't seen it yet).
I read they changed "star in a reasonably priced car" to "star in a rallye-cross car" and included wet/off road sections instead of the same old hammerhead/etc. That seemed like a pretty good idea. Evidently, not good enough. Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 05-31-2016 at 05:36 PM.. |

Same here. LeBlanc was pretty good. But I watched the whole thing and never laughed. That's the difference. I'm sure I'll watch a few more, see if it gets better. Looking forward to the amazon show even more now.

I found it good only in that they follow the same format. The new hosts either need to develop their characters or just plain stink. I do like Sabine Schmidt, that lady can drive! but as a host she wouldn't work.
I do like the new Rallycross course. I wish they'd pick a WRX/STI instead of the Mini JCW, but it is Britain I guess. I did think it was interesting in the first show they went to Top Gun in the USA, clearly they are trying not to lose the US market. I found this ironic being the British focus of the show in the past, but they did go to the US with the old hosts. We'll see how it goes, but I'll be following Clarkson/Hammond/May over to AmazonPrime, can't wait for that premier!

I thought it was pretty good, especially for a first show. Yes, Chris Evans needs to settle himself down - too hyper and too loud, but I'm sure he's got that message. Matt Leblanc was really quite good, IMO - well-spoken, knowledgeable, charismatic, and, because he's an actor, he can read from a script and make it sound natural. I love the new off-road segments to the track. The SIARPC segment was getting boring - this adds a new life to it.
Keep in mind the first few seasons of top gear were pretty bad - it took a while for them to assemble a cast and get comfortable with each other. I think there's a potential for a great show here, once they work out the bugs.

I have not yet seen it...
Do they have a Reliant Robin segment? That'd make it interesting, eh?

Actually, yes, almost! Reliant Rialtos instead of Robins.

I have not finished the entire show yet but the Matt guy is decent. He at least sounds natural and not like a two bit actor like the have on the American Top Gear.
I don't know who Matt is but he did seem to make his part seem real. I had never heard of the loud host and I don't care for his delivery. I will keep recording them. One thing for sure it is way better than the American Top Gear. Only Tanner is worth watching from that horrible show.

I would rather watch Hillary Clinton have a three way with oprah and Roseanne than watch the American top gear again.
the previews I saw had matt leblanc looking like a legit car guy. hope it sticks and gets better. corolla struck me as an early version of the now famous douchebag in a beard talking about hoppy beer in 'growlers' non stop.

Frankly...I think the old Top Gear was a bit tired anyway. Just same old stuff over and over. They need a new formula.
I would agree that the new Top Gear need improvements. Matt was great. Chris was OK. The Extra Gear segment was crappy. So is their new track. Don't like it. Just too gimmicky with the dirt and water. BTW....they should do this... Make Sarbine the new Stig! She has the track/driving cred. Doesn't need to talk much except some %$^&& comment about a car when the car deserves it. |

It was rough, but go back and watch the first season of old Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond, and the guy who only lasted one season, and it certainly wasn't as polished as the final seasons. I'd give them a season or two to get in their groove. They will need to drop segments that don't work so well with the current batch of hosts and develop new ones that better suit them.
