You people are really something to behold....as the old adage holds so true for you all...a fool and his money are soon parted.
You can go to a Thrift store and find a vintage all metal housing Oster Commercial Blender for under $10.00. I have two of them. They work great, and built the old fashioned way..to last forever. Now I used to be just like you boyz before I found the true religion of the Thrifts...the thing is you can better made stuff that is vintage made in America then the right out of the box new stuff made in China. And you can get it for only a few $$$$$$. So what would you rather have a tank of an appliance and money in your pocket or a so so new piece made in China AND NO MONEY IN YOUR POCKET. The choice is yours to make... |
Ninja doesn't last. We went through two bases and two jars in three years. The fussy lid also broke. They are cheap but that is false economy.
Vintage Oster blender looks cool and is adequate for light users. |

Yeah, but can your $10 Oster make you a bowl of soup in less than 10 minutes and then, while you're enjoying your fresh, home made soup, turn right around and make you a bowl of ice cream, for desert? I think not, pardner! :p

I won't spend that much on a blender but I get why some would. |

ask him about smokers.
just warn Wayne he'll need to up his bandwidth beforehand. |
What do you guys use your blender for? We have a 'cheap' $75 whatever it is. Makes a smoothy, puree something once in a while, frozen drink..

no dont ask him about smokers..or his coffee maker..just dont |
i went with an $100 Breville. we just dont use a counter top blender enough to justify a Blentec or Vmix. the thing works fine whipping up a chopped ice margarita, and the RARE milkshake. i got the thing to make red chili enchilada sauce. (<---which is the swiss army knife of mexican sauces)
for soups, i get lazy and use a stick blender. i got some industrial WARE brand and it kicks ass. |
I haven't used a blender in years and make protein shakes every day. I use the cuisinart smart stick. Faster to use, way less cleaning, and less money.

The reason people buy a Vitamix is for the versatility and speed. The longer blades will crush and puree ice without the ice sticking to the sides of the container. It'll last forever, and the variable speed makes precision mixing easy.
As I said already, it's way more blender than most people will ever need. It's a commercial food prep tool. Like all other tools, if you don't know why you need it, then you don't need it. If you like cool stuff, look at the vintage Vitamix blenders. They are sort of like old Electrolux vacuums. Way over engineered and fascinating. |
You are arguing over the internet about...a Blender

Another vote for a Vitamix. Apart from all of the other benefits noted, it also blends things better than other blenders. There's a little science involved in the blade design, the shape and dimensions of the sides of the container, etc. This is one of those buy-it-once decisions. It's also one of those tools that no serious kitchen should be without. JR |
I guess I'm dense. Serious kitchen tool, ok, for what? I make tons of sauces and if I have to do thing in 2 batches I'm ok with that. No argument on my end, really just curious what I'm missing. I usually dont cook for more than 4, I can see production work necessitating great power/capacity.

Chile purees, used in Mexican cooking. Mexican sauces, as in sauces used for enchiladas, or assorted salsas. Soups and certain sauces used in French cooking. Liquification of certain ingredients used in cooking certain dishes, like a French cassoulet. Etc.
Then you have various mixed drinks, shakes and malts, etc. JR |
enchilada sauce for sure.
emulsions also. but i more than likely reach for my stick blender. |
