I use the emulsion blender for most hot stuff. Otherwise my 'cheap' blender takes 2-3 batches if the liquid is chunky. My setup isnt great with ice though, I see that as a nice to have with a better unit. |

Whatever you do....what..ever..you do, do not start it with the variable speed on "Hi" or you'll have food on your ceiling.

I was saying that the lid will blow off, which is why you hold it down. But someone using it for the first time would not expect the amount of power that the Vitamix has, and may turn it on with variable speed cranked all the way up.
|
Hahah, OK. My lid seems to clamp on pretty well, and ours is computer controlled, so even if you set it to 10 and then turn it on, it ramps up (quickly, but not instantly at max RPM). You do have to be careful if you're adding stuff down the small hole in the lid, stuff will shoot out of the top.
We bought the extra containers, so we have 32oz, 32oz dry (different blade) and 64oz. It was a Christmas present. It is a pretty amazing bit of kit and will blend the hell out of anything. |
Villaware my ex bought it for me 9-10 years ago. (She liked me then) She researched blenders before buying it. Makes great blended margaritas.
Just looked it up: Moderno Pro Infinity Blender - 1 1/4 Horsepower 1000 watts power. It was around $200 at the time. *We have discontinued the Villaware Moderno Pro Blender due to poor customer service on the behalf of the manufacturer. * Looks like what was a good buy a few years ago is now a good bye. |
How does a blender make you soup?
|
Some soups require you to turn chunks of cooked vegetables into a smooth puree. Vichyssoise, some versions of potato and leek soup, some versions of mushroom soup, leek or lettuce soup... there's a fairly long list. You cook the ingredients, blend them, then finish the soup on the stove.

The Vitamix® blades reach speeds fast enough to create friction heat that can bring ingredients to steaming hot in four to six minutes. The Vitamix machine also quickly crushes and blends ice and frozen ingredients before enough friction heat is created to melt the mixture." VitaMix FAQ Page Randy |
Waring here - very heavy duty and parts are easy to get if the need should ever arise. It blends everything you throw in it.

Needless overengineering. Who is going to stick his fingers into a running blender?
|
I cant believe I care enough about blenders to post not once but twice in this thread. Arnt new blenders a metric ass ton more quiet than the older ones?
My mother is into kitchen paraphernalia and it they type of person who buys 300$ pots and similar. I remember when I was young (80s) when she ran the blender a small trickle of blood would come from your ears. |

Does anyone really use all 7 ... 10 (?) speeds on one of those blenders?
And more importantly - remember the frog in the blender? :) http://joecartoon.com/games/play/65/Frog_in_a_Blender G |
