Things are moving right along. I have all of the case hardware cleaned and prepped for assembly. I also have the chain housings, chain covers, and oil pump cleaned and prepped for assembly. All of the galley plugs in the case and blind studs in the chain housings have been epoxied just as the factory does.

I have been sourcing parts that were missing from the motor here on Pelican.
I got word today that Armando from CCR shipped the crankshaft via FedEx. I am hoping to see it before the weekend. I had him cross drill it for better lubrication on cylinders #2 and #5.

I also heard back from the machinist, MTE, LLC, that the heads and cam towers are mostly done.

Hopefully if all the stars and moon line up, I will have it all by the weekend. If so, the build begins. More pictures to follow.

I need a clone...of me.

If you get all the parts by the weekend, you can spend Labor Day, laboring away!

Not that I know of. I have not even counted up the stack of receipts for parts yet. I'm afraid to.

very cool...
Im interested to find out if there is a alignment for the rods.. ie, does it matter which way around they are mounted on the crankshaft? (this might be a silly question!)

I started out the morning driving up to South San Francisco to drop off round two of the powder coating goodies. I got a much later start today then I wanted to but....OHWELL.

As a general rule, I always keep all of the rod number stamps facing up. An old habit from my old VW days. These rods are semetrical and it does not really matter which way they go. Type one VW rods are asemetrical and they DO matter which way they are assembled.

I think that is enough progress for the day. I should be getting the heads and cam towers back from the machinist next week. The cylinder air deflectors are what I dropped off at the powder coaters this morning. I will need those back before I can put the heads on anyways. I will probably be working on the intake manifold assembly next. I am replacing all of the fuel lines and re-installing missing parts on that.

Another pithy quote that grabbed the spammers attention.

STOP QUOTING SPAMMERS!!!!!

They hide images in their posts for tracking. When you quote them, you DOUBLE their tracking.

If you want to quote them, put spaces in their image URLs.

Friday was my running around day. Drove up to South San Francisco again to pick up the rest of the powder coated goodies. From there it was off to German Precision to glass bead all of the hardware that is going to be re-plated. I got to hang out with Ted and Jerry Woods for awhile. Jerry was making a tool for a 996 transmission. After getting all of the hardware stripped it was off to the plating shop then back here to work on the engine for a bit.
Today has been, or at least felt like I got something done. Heads are on, cams in, cam paralell alignment checked, rockers installed, valves pre-adjusted, and ready to set cam timing. I'll save that for tomorrow. I'm burnt.

Cam timing is all set. Long block assembly complete. Now I need to wait for the stuff at the platers to be finished. The fan, fan housing, fan strap, and pulley hardware is also going to be awhile.
