Spectre Polymer 80 kit

Anyone here know about this kit? Apparently upper and lower parts are available. But no FFL required? How can this be legal? Magill explains it all but still it doesn't sound "kosher".

In free states (ie, Not California or probably new jersey) that don't further restrict federal law, anyone who can legally own a gun is allowed to make their own gun as long as it isn't for resale (remember, the Feds only have oversight on "interstate commerce").

The BATFE has said that you don't need to start with a hunk of iron - but the last critical parts must be done by the end user. Which is what has prompted the "80% rule". And the BATFE only considers one part to be "the gun" - receiver (upper or lower, depending on what gun), frame, etc, the part with the serial number.

You can get forgings or castings for various guns - Ruger 10/22, 1911, Garand, ARs, AK flats, etc - that as far as the feds are concerned are just a hunk o' steel. And then finish them yourself, sometimes needing very complex tools and skills (Garand, FN-FAL, etc - you need blueprints and a CNC machine) or not (10/22 - you need a decent drill press that doesn't wobble ). Once you have the receiver just drop on standard parts from either a parts gun, factory parts kit, all custom after market stuff, etc.

If you ever make it to N Central Florida I'll let you play with ym FAL (sorry, not a L1A1/SLR, it is a German G1 kit) and I'll see if my buddy with the FA toys can come out to play.
