Got hit today. Black eye. How long does the pain last?
Been spending a lot of time at hospital with my father. Today, I decided to pickup the kids from school and blow off some steam. Took them to the pool for a little fun before going to dinner. Fun all right. I got kicked in the face, right in the eye, bleeding nose and all. Talking about seeing fooking stars? I have never been hit like that before. When I move my right face or cheek now, it still hurts. I can't touch it because its swollen up pretty damn good. How long before it goes away? How about the blackness. Its pretty black and blue now, I can't wait until tomorrow. Panda eye for sure. Anyway to reduce the swelling or blackness?

Don't know if it realy works, but the old folk remedy is the raw steak placed over the eye.
Anyone tried this treatment? And remember no rough housing in the pool kids. Cheers Richard |

Raw steak works because it's cold and it conforms to the shape of the eye so it makes good contact.
You could also use a bag of frozen peas. The important thing is to ice it ASAP.

I would google it to see what else you can do. I would have thought that alternate cold and warm/hot wet face cloths would relieve the swelling and the pain. If in doubt a doc could check your eye out, perhaps even an eye doctor to make sure you have no eye damage.
The last time I had that I was about eight years of age and going downhill too fast on my bike trying to keep up with my friend. I got wheel wobble and went over the handlebars and got a black eye. It lasted about 2 weeks. In my case the road was flat so there was minimal intrusion into the eye. In your case a foot in the eye is more intrusive.Ouch. Expect skin color around the eye to go from black to purple to yellow to normal in about a 2 week period. Ouch. You have my sympathy. ![]() Is there a doctor in the forum? |

What the heck is this forum coming to? The guy says "I got kicked in the face" and no one asks why, or by whom?
So, you got kicked in the face. Do tell ... _

Ouch. Facial injuries are no joke, you should get checked out by a doctor, especially if there are any vision problems or severe headaches. Take Tylenol or Advil. Ice is not a bad idea but still get checked.
One of my close friends was in a bad bicycle accident a couple years ago where he rode into a sewer grate downtown that was the exact width of his front wheel. He was moving fast and launched, landing on face and out cold. Orbital socket damage that required surgery to set properly, he's ok now. That's an extreme example and hopefully your injury is less serious but the bones in that part of the face break fairly easily, happens quite a bit in fights/assaults. Get it X-rayed and then tell us it was all ok. ![]()

Pics?
When I was apprenticing, I left a 32 oz ball peen hammer on top of a 14 foot ladder. It caught me over and under my left eye. Had some bone chips from the impact and my eye had closed from the swelling almost immediately. Looked like hell for a while. I think this story is in the "admit your stupidity" thread somewhere... Those pools are dangerous. Got kicked in the goody bag at one of my son's birthday parties by one of the kids coming off the waterslide.... Great googly moogly that hurt like a mudder.....

Too late now but you should have iced it ASAP, hurts like he11 when you do it but greatly reduces swelling and bruising the next day (which is unfortunately, today, sorry).
As as said a cold steak is just an old timey version of an ice pack, a bag of frozen peas works better, of course they now have those frozen gel packs that are perfect for this kind of thing. Jeeze... I injure myself too often...

Gives new-found respect for those UFC fighters who get those on a regular basis, eh? Me... one little tweek to the nose and i'm floored with both eyes watering.
Hey, at least you got something to show for it. People are always impressed with bruises, stitches and casts. Hernia pain? Not so much...
