as a lifetime advocate for poor grammar and creative spelling, even I think resumes and cover letters should be perfect

I don't fault the guy for the inability to spell (all words are made up after all), but I fault him for not caring enough to find somebody or some thing to check it over

I received a 15 page resume the other day. I kid you not.

The guy had one page for every job he has held with a bulleted list of tasks. Interspersed here and there were some actual accomplishments but you had to look for them.

I made it to page 2 for entertainment value... The other 13 pages joined the first two in the bin.

I've replied to about 20-25 companies with cover letter and resume over the past six months from jobs posted on indeed or select leaders and have only received one interview. Mind you, I am more than qualified for any position for which I have applied.

Recently, my other half suggested I change the year of my college graduation on my resume from 1976 to 1986 to see if that might change anything (making believe the new mistaken date was a typo if it was ever questioned, later). I sent out the "typo'd" resume to a new job posting, two days ago, and immediately received a phone interview.

No, there is no age discrimination in hiring...At least none that anyone will admit to.

I remember my father telling me that someone had the job of talking to one high level software engineer & then going to talk to another, as they simply could not communicate between themselves without help. These were the days when Lucent was doing some crazy computing projects.

My mother, who had been an 8th grade English teacher, used to help the guys write evals and reports and whatnot since their spelling and grammar was so atrocious.

What!!!!

Hell I'd get bored trying to type 15 pages about myself, let alone reading it about someone else!

No problem there for me.

Honestly when it comes to spelling I can look up a word and five minutes later well I have to look it up again.

Now for my resume, does cleaning urinals count for executive experience?

Some folks might get bored typing about themselves but I would think that some material
could be highly entertaining for others to read. I would hazard a guess that some people on this board have lived very interesting lives as witnessed by the snippets of information presented here. Insert dragon azz jeans as an example.

Resumes are likely cleansed of the applicants' deficiencies. Autobiographies are more entertaining. You just have to read some of the old Playboy Mags of the 1960's. Of course getting paid to write the truth brings out much needed information.

only if you made someone else do it while claiming 'excellence' for yourself.
