They are trying to build a model of your personal pattern of behavior. Once they get enough of data on you they will be able to tailor the content of the information you receive to manipulate your perceptions and behavior. You won't even know it is being done.
They have some problems though as their thinking is very crude. They first have to build a big enough data base (over lots of time) and then sift through the information to see universal patterns develop and then start applying those to the individual. In the application to the individual a lot of nuance is needed. Shadings of gray as it were. Then we come to the interpretation and perceptions of the idiots who sit behind desks that collect the information have. Having the data is one thing but using it is quite another. So it comes down to art more than science as numbers lose something in the translation that rings hollow. Human beings first and foremost are emotional creatures where so many variables come into play. Guess what if I can explain the mechanism to you, I know how it works and can apply those principles, dontcha think?

i agree with OP here. FB and Tesla are on their own agendas. I do not have FB, I despise it. Tesla can go back in time in 2.5 seconds, will never get my money. And do not call me narrow minded, but they are upto somethin a lot larger than asshat isis terrorists. Watch and you shall see.

They had tons of OPM funding. The Air Force taught them how to safely launch satellites for free (in fact we gave them full time personnel from my team to work on their team for free...for years before they were able to do this type work...and for years now, we have heard how the private sector does it better...because they can cut corners and do it cheaper. There is always a price...and in their case, they are willing to accept much more risk for failure than a governmental entity that has to expect to be held up to political scrutiny. We still safely launch satellites all the time. There is just no public fanfare.
