Funny small town Craigslist oops

Guy posts an ad before labor day weekend for a used set of 914 heat exchangers. I get a hold of him by text and discuss seeing them. "well, I'm out of town with friends all weekend, can you come up Tuesday after labor day". I respond with sure, I'll text you and let's plan on 2 in the afternoon.

We live in Spokane, a "small town" of like 200,000 people.

My best friend in town lives a block away from me. We got together for dinner last night at his place. He says hey, I picked up a nice set of 914 heat exchangers off of CL today (labor day). Nice guy, he had a few other things I bought.

I get a text from the nice guy a half hour later. "Sorry about this but...I won't be selling the exhaust after all...my nephew decided he wants them "

I text him back, "so your nephew's name is Brian? I'm having dinner with my buddy who bought the stuff from you today. No worries, we share car stuff all the time anyway :-)"

Funny I didn't hear back from the guy.

Funny stuff, it really is a small world. I bought 4 truck tires and wheels from a guy who live out in the middle of nowhere. A year later, I am looking to buy a backhoe, and when I follow waze to the address, lo and behold , it is the same guy .

A friend of mine bought a used El Camino from "a grumpy old man" who lived out in the boonies. He met a lady down in the big city a year later and they started getting serious so she invited him to meet her dad. He was driving the El Camino and she was giving directions. He kept noticing things that looked familiar. They pull into the the farm road and he parked the El Camino in the same spot it was in when he bought it. The future father in law was impressed with the way the car looked and the work he had done to it. They got along great and he married the lady.

Clearly not...but, that seems to be typical these day.

There seems to be a real lack of integrity in today's marketplace. This all goes back to the "other thread" on this forum about keeping your word.

Yes, it is hard to imagine that people find it so easy to lie for a buck or two. It is no wonder that there are so many frivolous law suits.

It seems that almost anyone...selling almost anything...instantly becomes that lying used car salesman that we all used to abhor. In fact, when you discuss issues like this...even folks who post here and seem reasonably normal/honest in their other posts readily admit that their word means nothing when money is involved.

It is a real shame.

Joke's on the seller in this case. I ended up with em anyway. They are for a 2L motor, my buddies 914 is a 1.8. He paid $150 and owes me a little money so dropped them off at my house Wednesday :-)
