Fascinated by this kind of stuff. I loved watching all of this unfold between Thrust SSC (Brits) and the Spirit of America (USA) in the late '90s!
As for what makes me "gray out": jet engines!!! UGH! Understanding how they work beyond anything that might be in a children's book just makes me glass over with stupid!

F you all. Look through the surface reflections from that shiny glass face. You can't. Where is the needle again? I can't see it even now. Speed ranges identified? 600? 900? Nope. Meh. Whatever. When traveling at mach+ on the ground with his eyeballs bouncing hard, what experimental driver risking his life needs to be reminded that it is a ROLEX? |

Are you Chuck Yeager?
I made a new observation today Then I decided to share it with others on the internet so they could be aware of a different perspective. What did you accomplish today? (Oh. You are British. Please enjoy your jihabs.) Last edited by john70t; 09-19-2016 at 01:41 PM.. |

Perhaps he was not commenting on the technical reasons why the speedo is awesome...or not. He may of found it cool because the speedo is x100 mph. A speedo that tells you if you are going 800mph is pretty cool IMO.

Thanks for asking, I accomplished quite a bit today , enjoyed a good day at work, had it confirmed I start on a sunshine and rainbows all electric race car project, a first for me so I'm quite excited. On the way home in the dark and rain I lost the back end of my truck on a fast corner but with ninja like reactions caught it in time. Got home, changed my pants and enjoyed a nice meal with my family but today hasn't been as productive as I'd have liked as I didn't get anything done on my garden landscaping project as its raining. What did you do today then? Don't jump to conclusions based on my location as I consider myself a bit more worldly wise than just British. Our jihabs are quiet for now but you guys need to tell yours to settle down a bit as they seem to be mis-behaving and playing up a bit.

I'm going to think out loud a bit and make a few assumptions. 1 I'm betting once the cockpit is complete with a roof, windows, etc.... that it'll be dark enough that the reflectivity of the lens isn't an issue. 2 I'm also betting that is more of a -quick glance, how are we doing- kind of thing for when the guy is going balls out and has more important things to worry about than how fast he's going. 3 I bet that in addition to that speedo, there may be something a bit more specific on one of the 3 monitors that he's facing. 4 Speed Ranges identified? Sure, I see 11 major ranges with numbers. Then I see a halfway mark. Then the human mind is pretty good at estimation. Then starting at 800, there are marks for every 10 mph. The marking for "Mach 1" on the dial is something that you don't see every day unless you're a military fighter pilot. Yeah, that speedo is very cool. I remember as a teen, seeing any speedo that went over 85mph seemed cool. These days 200mph or 400kph don't seem that spectacular, but 1100mph, yeah, that's holy crap cool. The "Mach 1" marking is also cool. It's pretty impressive that the time estimated for 0-1000 is 55 seconds and the time for 500-1000 is estimated at 17 seconds.

I'd bet that the speedo and clock are more whimsical additions than anything else. I'm assuming there will be lots of data to view on the three displays, if he's not busy looking out the window and pointing the thing where it needs to go.
If you're going to carp about visibility, I'd worry more about the visibility of the switch identifiers more than anything else. Unless none of those need to be switched once under way... John seems to be off his meds today. Or something. JR |

Apparently.
But I'm not in a ground-level cockpit doing 1,100mph. I'm not depending on instrumentation as if my life depended on it. Neither are you. Not sure about the terminology, but shot in the head for failure by N.Korea general might apply here Corporate advertisements belong outside the work space as distractions. Relevant control systems should be planned and engineered as such. For success. Last edited by john70t; 09-19-2016 at 03:41 PM.. |

Sorry, but I;;ll / stick with my original position.
[and may I present an example of the latest modern Firefox Browser Spell-Check for your enjoyment. Firefox is still learning the English language.] The gauge remains a detriment to the driver. It should be left blank. No info is better than bad info. IMO. Of course. Last edited by john70t; 09-19-2016 at 04:51 PM.. |

Anytime a work related meeting goes off topic from whatever reason the meeting was called about. When that happens, I fade out while trying to be productive in my head without actually being able to work on the solution.
