Music Midtown - Bust!
17 y.o son and 19 y.o. daughter decide they want to go. She has a job and pays for her ticket ($157), yup. Son's birthday is a few days later so I buy his ($157). Two weeks later we decide one of us should go with them...wife volunteers. We buy her ticket ($175, early-bird discount is over). I pick up two days round trip MARTA passes for them while at the airport. So, about $525 in. $100 for spending money and I drop them off at MARTA station.
Get a phone call an hour later...daughters ticket, lost. Home they come. She could have gotten in with ID (tickets are registered) but alas, she didn't bring it. Sunday, rain starts at 11am. Doesn't stop all day. Everyone stays home. Show goes on. Will never do that again. Vent over. Could have put new tires on the RT for far less. I love spending money....but I hate wasting it. No ones fault, but I'm still pissed!

No where near the $$ impact but my daughter went to the Blossom Music Center near Cleveland a few weeks ago to see Blink 182.
She had an electronic ticket on her I Phone. No phone coverage at the venue. They sent her walking.

I've never trusted that I could get an electronic ticket to work, so I always print it out and also use the screen capture camera function on my iPad to take a photo of the ticket as well, so even without service, I can pull up the picture- do iPhones have the same ability?

No one remotely adult should ever go anywhere without some form of ID.
Sucks that you spent the money and everyone missed out.

She didn't want to carry her purse, had her ticket, so left her wallet at home. Hey, she's 19. I actually suggested they put her on MARTA and I'll be waiting for her on the other end. That way my wife and son could attend. But, we live south of town and MARTA stops about 5 times in some rough neighborhoods. We agreed that we didnt want to have a pretty young girl on that train by herself on Saturday night. So, home they came.
Music midtown is an outdoor venue and it rained all day long. At one point they evacuated the park due to flooding and lightening. A couple hours later, reopened. It was a mud-hole and no, they wouldn't have melted but I had to agree that it probably made sense to skip it. They had no car so would have been stranded on the streets of mid-town along with 50,000 others. Bottom line, a complete bust. Never set foot in the park.

When I first went to concerts in the late 90's, I was typically paying around $25 a ticket, plus a couple bucks in fees. A really expensive ticket might be $35 and a cheap on $15. I recall picking up decent tickets weeks after they went on sale. There was no hurry. Either way, it was an inexpensive way to spend a day and have a good time. Most of the concerts I went to were either at Alpine Valley or what at the time was called The World.
10 years later, the same bands were $75 a ticket for crappy seats and the (ticketmaster) fees were around $15 dollars. Also, now that tickets could be purchased online, it seemed like tickets for every show would sell out in 10 minutes or less. The whole reason I went to concerts was to relax and be entertained. As soon as it became an expensive and stressful endeavor, I stopped going.

Inflation has definitely set in but then again I have ticket stubs from The Rolling Stones at the Gator Bowl 1975 for $5 and from Philips Arena for $225 in 2004 also saw The Beatles at the Gator Bowl for $5 in 1964.

Sucks to hear. FWIW I used to go to a lot of live shows but haven't in years. They've become far too profit-oriented and I can't justify paying $75 or $100 even for a band I like just to sit in some overcrowded stadium and watch them on a video screen. Not worth it. I much prefer local / cover bands up close and in person at a bar or similar venue where you can actually see what's going on.
My last "concert" was Michael McCloud down in Key West from about 10' away enjoying a few beers and some sunshine (outdoor harborside bar). Enjoyable. I left him a couple of $20s for the performance. |

agree POP. A lot of my favorites are getting up there in years and I prefer to remember them at their best on YouTube or wherever. A cover band in a small venue for a few bucks can be satisfying without the hassles and expense of the big gigs. Some are amazingly good and true to the originals.

'Bout the only outdoor festival I've attended more than 4--5 times that hasn't been rained on a time or six was Street Scene in SD...that's southern CA for ya though....my girl and I could fly out, stay for several days on $20 back then
. Jazz Fest in the mud...a few. I avoid the big stages usually....heard some awesome bands that way. Used to help with outdoor blues festivals...rained on a few....some big names took their headliner checks and never played a note. Most memorable was Snooks and Bob M (Gogar knows ) playing in an old train depot turned into an impromptu venue....they f'ing rocked for a few hundred faithful. I fished in the rain most of the morning...got drenched, didn't catch a thing...had a blast. |

Too bad, Blossom is a great venue. I have seen a bunch of different shows there, and really like that place .
