Cool but spendy. A replacement bulb is $59.97 - 15000hr avg life - 600 lumens. Compared to a normal Phillips LED bulb @ $14.97 - 25000hr avg life - 830 lumens. Higher cost, less life & less light. Still cool though. Home Despot pricing.

You plug them in, and the brain just finds them, no coding, but you have to download the app. Many colors and themes, you can even take a picture of something and it will replicate the color of the item you took a picture of. You can set each one to different colors/themes/brightness.
Not something I would have bought for myself, but definitely cool. Spendy, yes. I put the three bulbs in my bedroom lights. If you don't want to use the app. you just turn the lights on and off with the normal switch and it remembers the setting you set it to. At $60/bulb it is definitely spendy. I might consider a few more bulbs in useful/interesting areas, certainly not for the whole house.

Another geegaw consumer product for the satiated American consumer to indulge his hedonistic lifestyle with. Instead of wallowing in consumerism send a check to the IRS for 84K to pay your end of the American debt off...it has been during your watch that it hit these new heights...

I was disappointed when cars became smarter than me.
Now it's light bulbs. I'm crushed.

I heard that there is a TV show coming out that will interact with your Hue lighting. That could be pretty neat.

I participated in a market research study on those about 3 years ago. They are very cool, but pricey.

I don't really understand what these do. Let me use an example. In my kitchen, I have two bulbs above the sink and four above the table. In the morning, I would like all the bulbs to be at max brightness with a cooler (color) temperature. In the afternoon, I would like max brightness and a slightly warmer temperature. For the evening, I would like lower brightness and a warm temperature. Sometimes I will want the sink lights to be bright and the table lights dim, sometimes I will want it the other way around, and these changes would be ad hoc, not on a schedule.
Can the Hue bulbs do that?. What other equipment well I need?. How easy is it to program the schedule, or to make changes ad hoc? |

Starter pack comes with 3 bulbs and the controller, which plugs into wi-fi, but isn't programmed into your router, you can change individual bulbs, color, color temp and brightness, or all the same. It has a timer, but I haven't used it. Download the app options, I don't know what the app will do if it doesn't see the control box. It isn't wi-fi in that it only works in the house, not say from my office. When you manually turn one off, it keeps its settings for when you turn it back on.
Up and running in 2-3 minutes. A menu allows for lots of colors and themes, you can even take a picture of some color and select it in the menu, and it will copy the color to the bulbs. Last edited by Hugh R; 01-17-2015 at 12:30 PM.. |
