Glock 19 vs 26 as a CC piece

I know there is some love and some hate for the plastic fantastic from Austria. I want a second one to put on the list for my CCW permit with the Airweight .38. I considered something chambered in the 9 mm kurz(.380/9mm Browning) but after further examination, a standard 9 mm looks like a better choice. Given my intent to carry it, I ruled out the G 17, and am settled on either the 19 or the 26, leaning toward the 26.

I know there are more economical choices, but there are a number of reasons I like the Glock 9 mm, not the least of which is how sweet my best friend's .45 shoots. I know there is a fair amount of "book knowledge" accumulated in one place here, and I would like to know what you guys think.

Bought G19 Gen 2 in 1986. Was shooting a fair bit then, range 1-2X week and up in the Angeles Crest on weekends. Had heard so much about the Glocks that I decided to never clean it and see when it would malfunction. Two or three years later I gave up waiting and started cleaning it. I finally did have a malfunction, twice, in about 2004. Two decades of leaving the mags loaded had finally weakened their springs. Replaced all mag springs and recoil spring, gun has resumed its life of perfect functioning. At this point, we're at two malfunctions in 30 years. I think maybe it might be a pretty good gun . . .

Maybe look at the subcompact Glock 9mm or 45 too?

Buy both! they're cheap. take them to the range and see how they work for you. I one really sucks sell it!

When I was waiting 11 months 2 weeks for my ccw I bought a Sig P938 via sse, a M&P shield and a Springfield EMP the Shield was sold off in a month the trigger sucked. The P938 dug into my palm in a bad way, so bad I was worried about nerve damage. I might buy a Glock 19 in the future but two things that I don't like with the Glock it is thick as a brick, the second is that your spare glock mag is thick as poo too!

Go shoot a VP9. Mags are silly expensive but what a great gun.
I own more than one G19 and still love them.

I have both the 19 and 26.

I carry a 43.

I prefer to shoot my 34 MOS.

They are all good choices as well as the other offering on the market.
Most of the various striker fired 9's are very similar and you can't go wrong with any of them.

I'm not familiar with the details of the various glock models. I'm assuming one of those is a single-stack 9mm. I'd lean towards that one. THere have been times when 380 was much harder to come by than 9mm, and for CC, single-stack>double-stack.

I'm old school....but really like my Ruger LC9S....eight shots is enough for me, smaller, sweet trigger, shoots great, accurate and below 400. Worth checking out imo...

How will you be carrying it? How big are your hands?

You may want to check out the small single stack Glocks - a buddy just got a 43 and he loves it.

Since I don't do teh CC thing - or if I do, I'm not so concerned about the conceal part - I'm happy with my full size CZ 75BD...

If you are a Glock person, you should be looking at the G27 for personal defense. .40 is a much better self defense round.

I am a JMB guy and I am looking to switch to High Power with .40 Cal.

I like the ability to use any 9 mm double stack magazine, which you could not do with a 43. You can use a high capacity magazine, if it were possible to purchase one in this particular banana republic. I suppose if I ever did have to cap a gangbanger, I could swap on of my 10 round magazines for whatever he had. In any event, I won't be here forever. I also am interested in eventually getting a carbine of some sort that uses pistol rounds. I was thinking lever action chambered in .357 or .44. There are carbines that accept Glock magazines, which is nice.

My buddy has a 21 that fits my hand well, and it is thicker than a 19 or 26. The wife would be using it from time to time. With her diminutive size, 9 mm is about as heavy a round as she can conveniently handle.

Pistol caliber carbines rock. My Ruger 44 magnum carbine is the cats butt. Buddy has a M16 and his favorite upper is a suppressed 9mm. LOTS of fun with the happy switch. For Glock mags, there are ARs that take them (Olympic and PSA) as well as teh KelTec Sub2k series. If you like the Browning Hi Powers, there are some 9mm M1 Carbines that use HP mags. And the Marlin Camp 9 or 45 (SW59 or 1911 for mags). If you are stuck in California then a lever gun in 357 or 44 mag makes a lot of sense - avoids all those stoopid laws.

I agree, but it makes sense everywhere as well. I have a REALLY NICE 1894 in 30-30. But it would be better to have one in .357 Magnum (or 44 Magnum) and reduce a caliber I need to stock.

Which is my basic thinking anyway....reduce the type of ammo to just those which will be readily available. And as was mentioned above, .380ACP (9mm short) is USUALLY more expensive and harder to find than 9mm.

Really good resource to see the effect of barrel length on ammo. 44 Magnum in a rifle puts some rifle cartridges to shame, at least at shorter distances.

Friend of mine has a pair of Winchester .357 lever action guns, one of which I plan to purchase, because, coboy guns are cool. Father in law has a Super Blackhawk with my name on it too, which makes that gun that Jim is talking about sound pretty good. Neat link there Red, .357 and .44 both look pretty potent with a foot and a half of barrel.

I want to pick up some sort of semi auto magazine fed handgun before it becomes illegal for me to buy one, and the clock is running out in December.

I shot both the Glock 26 and 43 while looking for a concealed EDC.

I got rid of my Ruger sr9c and went with the Wather PPS M2 LE in 9mm with 3 mags.

The Walther was more comfortable in my hand and again after shooting it for a while at the range.

YMMV, they are all very close.
