Is it still a barnfind if the owner finds it?
In the process of fixing my friends plumbing (another thread...), we went off to the store to get some parts. Arrive back at his house, I spy while driving up, an interesting car, on a trailer in front of his house.
A 1958 Corvette, cream over white. Owner lived across the street. Now, it had been parked by the owner in 1973, when he decided to "restore" it, which involved him removing all of the parts (trim, emblems, lights, soft top, interior, etc) and boxing it up. Then, after doing the free stuff, he realized that he didn't have any money, so it waited until he did. 43 years. It waited. They were taking the carcass and all of those boxes, and bringing them to a shop north of town, where they were going to drop $80-90k and a year of time to do a nut and bolt restoration. Sounds like longhood numbers... So, point is, it was amazing seeing this fiberglass shell (the paint was partially stripped, and time removed the rest of it) with exposed fiberglass glue points and such, all of the exposed mounting points for things like tail lights and emblems, all covered in 43 years of dirt and crap... No pictures, I didn't want to be *that* guy. I did however yell at my friend for not telling me that there was a Corvette shell across the street all these years, and that the owner had offered it for sale many many times for far less than it was worth ![]()
