Has the aircooled market cooled recently?

I realized that it's been a few weeks since some dude (flipper) ran me down in a parking lot or hung out the window at a stoplight offering me $40k for my car RIGHT NOW LETS GO TO MY OFFICE I HAVE CASH RIGHT NOW NOW NOW NOW

It was a weekly occurrence for 6, 8 months there. Did things cool suddenly? Or have they gone hotter and my car isn't desirable anymore?

big time. peak was about this time, last year.

edit: not just aircooled. appears most car prices have tempered with the uncertainty of this fall.

I have been watching the market for the past few years. I am just curious if it's the start of a seasonal downturn, or if it's legitimate trend.

Asking prices seem to still be where they were six months ago, but I just don't think they are moving like they were.

I hear there is some kind of election coming up? Maybe that...

And in hot Houston? I drive my car around all the time and rarely get a thumbs up in CO. And that's going back several years.

I watched this 911SC cab that is very similar to mine sell for $41k. They definitely aren't getting any cheaper.

A couple of resent car auctions that I checked out on the tube, have had a LOT of unsold cars. Seems to be cooling there.

Not a bad thing in the older Porsche world, keep them in the fun to use category, rather than investment range.

I've watched the 356 and XKE market for many years.

It's what I call the ratchet effect: 3 steps forward and one step back. Based on my observations, I don't expect to buy anther 73.5 like I did for $8,000 in 1990.

I will be finding out soon if there is a cooling off. I expect to put my 88 up for sale before the years end.

Observing the sold cars on ebay would seem to indicate it is softer now than last year. Many SC's are going for less the 30k with the nice g50 in the low to mid 30's

Just for exercise what do yall think a 88 with 160K with no oil leaks or engine issues would fetch.
Body is perfect and paint is flawless in Guards red. Interior has Recaro seats with 5 point harness. No ac in the car. It has the strut tower brace and larger t bars.

Its not a perfect car but it is a nice example/

Might not want to add that it got chased down over and over by a tired old SC

Maybe with the cooler weather we can try that again this fall. I had a piece of wood under the accelerator last time we went out to prevent leaving you too far behind.

From what I saw (sold 2 aircooled this year to make room)
- the crazy unjustified price car are no longer selling or have gone down
- the top shelf cars are still $$$
- The aircooled normal cars have cooled off but only moderately
- The 997.2 is way up

just my corner of the market from stuff I've sold or tried to buy...

Another I've occasionally kicked tires is the 77 and up 308 GTS. They've seemed to pattern the 80's era run-of-the-mill 911 series.

Either way, I think if someone wanted to jump in and enjoy for awhile then eventually get it out their system and resell, you won't lose. Both these era cars are of the DIY generation too. Though Ferrari buyers want to see dealer stamps and receipts, I think there's an exception to the 308. Good PPI works for me.

National election cycle. The money goes into hiding until they know the outcome and subsequent fiscal plan.

I watched at the countach's went from $90k to $500k+, I'm watching as the testa rossas of the same miami vice era go from $65k to .......?

I'm tempted to buy one. Most are over $100k by now, I figure they'll be $400k in 3 years.

But dang it all for missing out on the po-man's Dino 246 gt. Crazy how they were $14-15k in the early 80's. Not exactly low for the times but very attainable. Then I watched them hover in the $90k range and thought that was nutz. Now they're $300k to $4oo,ooo!

Alas, it's not a perfect world. I'm happy to be gone from that part of it.

Sadly, maybe not...I did have someone approach me, asking if it was a "real Bullitt Mustang", then ask if I was interested in selling. WTF? They are now a cheap car....who the hell would want to clone one?

I test drove a pristine 1 owner 246 GT about 35 years ago...totally rebuilt by Los Gatos (CA) Ferrari. A grey silver with matching new leather, rebuilt motor, and a $8k paint job. All manuals with original paperwork...the works!
They wanted $36k and I was tempted (I had wood) but my business had not yet taken off and I had a condo w/carport only. A pity!!!
My g/f at the time wanted me to take the jump. "I have room in my garage."
It was the first day that they had rolled it out.
I went back 2 days later just to drool and ponder - SOLD!
Yes, now look at them. Grr...
One of those heart sick memories.

I am aware of a very original lower miles '89 930 Coupe that sold for $95k this week.

Right rear quarter had a quality repair/repaint years ago.
Grandprix White/Black.

Asking was $100k

Market has pulled back a bit in the over heated sectors; long hoods, turbos, 89/94 spdstrs, etc.... SC and Carrera's really never got stupid expensive (read overpriced). I am looking for a long hood and think there is an opportunity to buy at a 2012 number not a 2007 number.
